Class Drops
Quote: Out of curiosity, as a 25 year old I’m almost certain to be on the E190 at B6? From the current class drops it sounds like the junior guys end up on the E190. What’s the average age range for classes?

24.1 - 62.7 on average based on the weekly stats they provide to us

You have the possibility of getting 1 of 11 seats. Make a list of your priorities and then you get what you can hold. Its very likely that will be in JFK or BOS.

You would be the junior member in your class, so most likely you would get either BOS190FO or NYC190FO.

In my class (May 2022) the bottom three pilots got BOS190FO, and the three above them got NYC190FO. Here are four things to keep in mind:

- Upgrade time to BOS190CA is very short (less than 18 months). There is a July 2022 new hire who will be making $200+/hr when he upgrades in December 2023. NYC190CA upgrade time is not much longer, around 24 months.

- The junior people in my class who wanted out of BOS or JFK were able to get another base in the recent system bid - meaning they’ll be moving to a base they prefer around their 1 year anniversary.

- Getting assigned the 190 is a temporary thing, unless you want to stay on the 190. Several classmates assigned the 190 were able to get 320FO spots effective around the one year mark. One was able to get LAX320FO effective 14 months in.

- All first year pilots are paid the same regardless of equipment. So it’s not until year 2 that 190FOs start earning a lower rate than 320FOs (who are earning a lower rate than 190 captains).

Think it would be easy to swap from BOS to JFK with a monthly base swap if I got BOS 190 or BOS 320? BOS commuting is much harder for me

If you are local and like day trips/2 day trips then the 190 is your plane. Yes, it will disappear soon but if I was a newhire living in the BOS area I would jump on the 190 and hang out as long as possible. BOS320 you won't see shorter duration trips until you're much more senior.

BOS-JFK swap should be pretty easy

WAY better for a newhire.

Seriously, just go to Delta. I think it’s better for all parties.

This is why we need better Vacancy bids. No new hire should be able to bid a historically senior base when I’m willing to bet at least seven current and qualified line pilots wait until at least next May to get to LAX.
