Not always, most of the time. I had the choice of the two when I got hired 9 years ago, I’ve been on it ever since. Never flown a redeye, reserve was a few months back then, likely less now. I have no regrets.
Guys are jumping ship off it or will be when the system bid comes out so I’d assume there’ll be more openings on it, therefore more of those spots handed out to new hires. 220 training is backed up because Airbus or Bombardier, or whomever the hell builds it, can’t fulfill the orders so I can’t imagine too many of those going to new hires, at least for a bit.
