Regardless of whether that's true or not, we have clearly exhausted many oil fields. Those show no sign of regenerating. Whatever mechanism may or may not exist to regenerate accessible oil reserves, it does not appear to operate quickly enough for us.

We actually would have hit "peak oil" some years ago... based on historical oil prices and extraction technology.

Technology advances, and price increases to pay for them, have put off peak oil for the foreseeable future. I suspect we'll migrate to renewable, greener, energy before we no kidding run out. Aircraft may be among the last consumers of bulk oil products, and by that time it could be 50% or more bio fuel.

He may not be totally out to lunch. I don't really buy it, but everything you need to make oil exists in the Earth, even without Jurassic bio mass (carbon, hydrogen, heat, pressure).
