Quote: Why not? 60,000 is certainly enough to live in the NYC area. Even more doable with roommates or a second income from a spouse.
For what it’s worth, there is a lot of premium open time/ trade board time available that’s easssy for someone who lives in base to snatch. 200% (16 hours, $800-$960) to sit reserve from home For 2 days after an irop? Yes please.

Plan to credit 120-130 hours a month here on average living in base (nyc specifically) if one hustles. That’s almost $90k on second year fo pay. Endeavor has very good open time pay and pickup rules, especially if you’re senior enough to get bought off for IOE. Taxes are a b**** though.

On the other end as a commuter I did 14 days off (was 15 but got a BYD) and did 105 credit with a 2 day pickup last month. It's pretty much impossible to credit 75 here. The months I've made no attempt to pickup anything I still seem to hit 80+ credit.

How far away is considered "living in base" anywhere within a 2.5 hours commute? Is the 2.5 hour call out for NYC, time to be at the gate ready to go?

That’s from call out time to report time which is 45 mins prior to departure. So 3:15 from call to departure. First 15 mins of the 45 min report is for updating EFB and such. Not required to be at gate til 30 prior. So it’s more like a 2:45 call out. Plan about 30 mins for lga to get from car to gate (bus runs every 15 mins and takes 10 mins or so... more during afternoon) and 40 mins at jfk. So I wouldn’t live anywhere further than 2 hours from the furthest airport in the worst traffic. Lots of our pilots live in Connecticut. That’s the easiest outside the nyc metro area and only an hour ish away during rush hour.

Problem is on reserve especially on the 900 you won’t fly much. Especially this month not a lot of open time either. Long call pilots fly more than short call pilots. So expect a lot of airport reserve. This month I’ve flown about 4 hrs. Also a commuter so endless sitting round. Great if you live in NYC but can’t hold ATL yet to do that from home.

Any of you guys in NYC live in North Jersey? I know the traffic is hell but I’d have a place to stay on reserve up there if it came to that. Are you able to make the callout via driving/train?

If you had a line, not on reserve.

Could you get to either LGA or JFK within 2.5 hours? If not, then no. Long call would work for you though.

Unless you are a NYC reserve.. then you struggle to even get consolidation in 120 days... reserve FO's don't fly in NYC today
could change tomorrow but I don't see it.
