I am a recent hire (just finished training) and am not aware of any Southern pilot on furlough; looks like they did back in 2009 though. I have heard that those who did not or could not make the jump from FE to FO were unfortunately let go when the 747-200 went away. There might be some Atlas and Southern folks on some sort of voluntary leave, but I don't think Atlas has furloughed either since the early 2000s (quick google search, could be wrong). There were some rumors that the company might do so if they couldn't staff the 737 (seemed to be what they hung out to dry when they couldn't staff things) over the last couple years as a bargaining tactic, but a lack of pilots is no longer an issue at 5Y/9S so I'd expect that rumor to be put to bed.Originally Posted by arcla
During my phone screening (and some friends from the same company) we were asked several times if we had recall rights or would be returning. I have also read in a previous post that they have employed pilots (or at-least one if the post is to be believed) on furlough. So I definitely think it’s a consideration for the recruitment team however would not seem to completely disqualify you.
