Quote: The last 5 new hire classes for Atlas/Southern had about 15 people show up total. Now, however, I think we should be closer to filling classes. Just talked to a Southern crew, and they are going to try and add a 777 airframe next month...
yeah I threw in an app and just wanted to hear what everyone thought about them. what’s the qol like. What the overnights like? how’s insurance? Days on and days off. I know ACMI are long stretches. What’s the DH policy. Etc etc etc.

All those answers are literally in this thread... start at page 1 and get ready for a heck of a story, so you'll know what you're potentially getting into (you may be surprised)

I think you’ll find a pilot group who’s moral has been completely leveled by this thing. Prior to the pandemic there were at least a large number of people optimistic about their opportunities outside of atlas. The rest were at least optimistic that the crazy amount of attrition wasn’t sustainable long term and eventually we’d either go out of business or get a contract. no one knew which but either was really plausible a few months ago. Now Atlas is killing it in the Asia and Europe markets and with several thousand furloughs from other carriers likely it will have a fresh supply of new hires for the foreseeable future. Personally I can’t wait for you to get here. I can’t wait for you to be here 6 months and tell me how it’s really not that bad and then quit 3 months later for literally anywhere that will take you. Cmon over.

"Hidden" Status
My application with Southern is currently showing "Hidden." Any of you guys have this or know what it means?

Welcome to the worst paid, and QOL airline in the 121 world. Now that management has a captive pilot group and will be filling classes, count on our execs to be going to the arbitrator for every concession they can get, like no scope, gateway, catering or seniority list instructors, maybe even pay cuts. Their attitude now will be we should all be writing them a check every month for the privilege of having a job and flying their jets.

could anyone share the major differences between 777 and 747? which would be better if given the choice between the two and why?

One needs 4 engines to get off the ground (3 if appropriately trained). The other does it with 2. The 747 has a higher hourly pay rate and goes to far more destinations.

Dude, don’t do it.

The 777 has a significantly faster upgrade and higher average line value, the 74 has more bases to choose from if you live in one of them and more variety in flying. The 777 lines are all scheduled for now and tend to hold together well, the polar/DHL flying on the 74 holds together well too. Advantages and disadvantages to either IMHO.

The 777 goes to a few places pretty routinely...you can read above.

The 747 is a lot different, depending on your base. ORD and JFK are fill-in bases, that have trips everyone, starting in all the bases. A lot of their trips don't start or end in base...HSV is starting to get this way, also. MIA has lots of out and backs, with 1 night away from MIA. JFK is getting more of these also, especially if you are senior. ANC and LAX you mostly just fly the Pacific Rim. Sometimes you will come back to ANC/LAX during a pattern. PAE is mostly flying the LCF for Boeing...about 6 airports, including Taranto. You may be doing a good amount of pax flying on the 747.The company has 7 pax 747s now. The 747 does quite a bit of charter, while the 777 does almost none. The 747 has a lot of airline deadheading, and some DH on Atlas' planes.

PM me if you want with specific questions...
