Quote: Things started backing up at the regionals because hiring had slowed at many of the majors in 2018. United cut back a lot while they shuffled their current crews around, Delta instituted a more "regional airline" staffing model that had them halt hiring for about 6 months. Southwest has cut back their classes November through April. American is basically a go to their regional and get in line. So things have slowed at the regionals lately. Things SHOULD get moving again this year but then again the economy is getting shaky and who knows what that will do to hiring in the industry short term. Long term the retirements will happen and those jobs will open up.
You really think Delta is using a regional staffing model?

No but they did shift the staffing model more towards a regional style that allowed them to halt hiring for about 6 months last year because it created that much of an "overstaffing" shifting to the new model. The 717 guys have schedules that look an awful lot like the crj900 here. Complete with pointless firebreaks.

The staffing model is not "regional style." The 717 schedules have looked like CRJ900 schedules for a long time because they do the same kind of flying.

Especially when everyone knows they are illegal according to NYC housing laws but they overlook that since doing it legally would be cost prohibitive and involve a local COLA increase to raise NYC crews to a minimum NYC standard of living...

It's always exciting to sit on your butt for several days in a row watching "Days of Our Lives" or "As the World Turns" while observing the Flight Crew slums of New York!

Well then all the Airbus 220 guys should have a blast too soon. Enjoy those 4+ hour fire breaks that the 717 and many of the A320 guys already get... even the 737 sees too much of that junk for a mainline. None of us should be seeing that if the planes are not sitting too. This is pure and simple taking line holders and scheduling them to be used as extra reserves.
