Quote: Anyone care to share a quick version of how BH made NetJets a bad place to be for pilots?

How does every rest period being shorter than your duty period sound for starters? How does 11 hours of duty being a "short" day sound? How does having to change hotels at the same cities on a weekly basis because they found a cheaper one sound? Or having to do the expense reports for your hotels sound? I can go on and on.
You guys have something good at SWA, which is why it is the only airline I'm applying to. If WB gets you, you will see "Luv" go away. Your culture will be gone. If WB obtains you, it will ALL be about making him money, and it will cost you.

Quote: Typically when these types take over they suck all the equity out if the company and discard at a later date. Billions can be quickly made for the investors. Not so good for the employees who have to pay off the debt.

I think you're lumping BH in with the KKRs and Bain Capitals of the private equity world. Not really a valid comparison, IMHO. The recent announcement of BH selling off Applied Underwriters not withstanding, Warren almost never sells companies...he plays the long game.

Having said all that, I'm still hoping it doesn't happen.

I’m not interested in flying for another “wholly-owned subsidiary”. I came here to get away from that corporate game, and that’s what WN will become. I’m sure we’ll say good bye to our profit sharing right along with LUV, too. There is no “profit” for a privatly owned wholly-owned... it all gets moved to uncle warren’s pocket.

That’s just one example of how bad this can go.

No thanks!

This is why I keep my logbook current.

They do better at negotiating and leverage than the union. They'll successfully create a toxic culture where the pilots become paranoid, threatened and scared during even the best economic times.

If the pilots don't sign substandard agreements the union will be involuntarily neutered.

Berkshire wins. All the time.

Nowhere in that article do I see SWA acknowledging anything more than the fact that there has been speculation by others - they certainly aren't acknowledging any talks.

1. Someone makes a wild speculation.

2. SWA states they don't comment on wild speculation.

3. The interweb blows up because SWA stated the above.

Quote:
"There has been speculation circulating that Warren Buffet might be looking to acquire an airline for some time, and that Southwest might be a good fit," Southwest says in a statement. "As a policy, we do not comment on speculations but appreciate Berkshire’s continued support of Southwest Airlines."

Quote: Please. NO! I have been trying to get AWAY from working at the BRK owned fractional I am at for years, and now they are chasing me. SWA absolutely WILL lose every shred of its unique culture if BRK acquires it. You will see the best airline job (IMO anyway) turn into the same angry UAL and AA culture. Fight this tooth and nail.
Angry UAL culture? Either you haven't been around UAL recently or, you spent a day at TK never to return.

I thought the pilots were with Teamsters?

Not in over a decade. Teamsters weren't really doing much other than collecting a percentage -- the pilot group was the one funding the negotiations, lawyers, etc., anyway, so they went in-house many years ago.

No. They’ve had their own in house for years.

NJ’s is the best fractional to work for, but frac flying is hard work, isn’t compensated at the same level as major 121 operators, and the upgrade into small jets takes forever.

It’s not that BH made NJ’s a terrible place for pilots. They overwhelmingly approved their last few contracts. It’s that fractional flying doesn’t hold a candle to legacy/LCC flying now that the lost decade is over, and the majors need bodies badly.

The market changed, and many aren’t content to bide their time in the 91k world anymore.

Not the pilots, but from the FAs to the gate agents, I get the feeling they are miserable. Otherwise they wouldn't treat the customers so badly.
