Risky thread but here we go, hopefully mostly positive people will participate.

Not talking about the past, just the present/future.

I keep reading how even though it'd be risky joining Expressjet, it could also be a great moment.

I got a class with Skywest, and I'm just wondering about Expressjet. I wouldn't mind keep flying the same plane (145) and also living in Texas.

Do some of you guys care to add pros/cons comparing both operators?

Very risky. I suggest you don’t read the responses and just decide for yourself by calling a few friends at both airlines....

This. I had the same decision to make. Called some friends and got an honest opinion for both sides. Also had some friends put me into contact with a few more people at each airline so I could get more than one opinion.

We have new hires from Dec 2018 awarded the E175 if that makes a difference to you. There is a slight chance we might get a straight flow, especially now since they a difficult time recruiting. United is investing a lot of money into our company with new aircraft and we should be taking aircraft away from Mesa later this year which will drive our upgrade times down dramatically. If you get in now at 1500 pilots and we hire 600 or more in the next year, you are jumping way ahead in seniority. A lot of news coming this year and if it doesn’t turn out to be great, then you should consider GoJets which will offer a fairly quick upgrade, decent pay and new a/c.

ERJ135dude, something to think about. God forbid you make a mistake or have a mishap while at work. If you work for Expressjet you have ALPA protection. If you work at SkyWest you have NO protection. At Expressjet you could be taken offline and retrained then returned to the line. At SkyWest you will be fired. Then when the feds get involved you will now pay for your legal fees. You will then pay for your retraining if you choose to continue your career as a pilot. I indirectly met two SkyWest pilots at Flight Safety this past December who made a mistake while operating a SkyWest aircraft. They were fired.

Choose wisely.

How much kool aid did you chug? OO has been getting new aircraft every month. Two just showed up on property last week but nobody talks about it because it’s business as usual. Taking aircraft from Mesa? You can’t even staff the old clapped out 145’s! You must be new! And Alpa? If you take a job based on “if I screw up alpa will protect me” find a new career!
