Why UPS only? I wouldn’t! You won’t score any extra points by saying "I came here just to see you." You’re paying lots of money to be there so you should talk to other airlines too. Trust me, the recruiters expect you to apply everywhere – if not you might even be perceived as slightly presumptuous -why apply elsewhere? I'm going to UPS!

Didn't mean to sound like I'm too good to fly for another carrier. I'm just not interested in working for any of the other airlines that will be at the job fair. I know lots of people who would love to fly for Southwest, Continental, and many others. I'm sure those are great jobs with great companies.

I imagine some of them have no interest in flying packages around in the middle of the night, so maybe they're not applying with UPS.

Hope everyone gets to where they want to be.
Where are you now? Are you happy in your current job? Enough to stay there for the rest of your career? UPS these days values heavy, international flying experience. I didn't want to work for Kalitta, Gemini, MaxJet, etc. (and never did)but you can bet your a$$ I had put in apps with them all in the last year. Why? To try and increase my chances with Brown by improving my qualifications. Getting hired at any major is like winning the lottery...even more so at UPS since they tend to hire less than the other places as a whole. Still only 3000 pilots. Unless you already have a flying resume that includes flying big jets across the pond, one would be a fool to maintain the status quo knowing the hiring background they favor right now. If I were going to ATL, I'd have resumes for CAL, DAL, SWA(my #1 plan B after UPS/FDX), EoS, Cathay, Emirates, and World. There are a ton of great people who don't get hired or even called to interview...If you happen to end up one of them what are gonna do?

Good point... I would just make sure that you're willing to make the jump to whatever carrier - and be happy, knowing full-well that UPS may not hire for a while (God forbid). Would it be worse than where I'm at now, is the question that I'm always asking myself!

UPS words from the Atlanta job fair
Anyone out there willing to post what the UPS news was at the Air Inc job fair in Alanta last Saturday? Wish I could've attended.

Thanks

411 from a friend who went down to meet UPS and came back very disappointed: Application window will not open again for another 7 months to a year. Oceanic requirement will still be in place, but now with a minimum of 500 hours of oceanic. At least the LRN and ETOPS type flight down the coast of eastern US to PR, DR, etc can now be counted toward the oceanic requirement.

Just passing along info from my friend who, as I said, came back very disappointed that he may have to wait a while for UPS.

Edit in: Oh, and he was also told that ALL apps will be purged at the end of 2007 like usual.

That's not what they told me or others I know. The outlook was much better than that. When the next window opens, they will have 2 applications. One will be the basic mins, and the other is for oceanic experience. They said that the window was open until they got 500 applications. Maybe that's where the 500 came from?

Man, that is really strange. I just got a full briefing from him today. He was very specific about the 7 months to a year until the window re-opened, and especially about the 500 hours oceanic time. Needless to say, he was disappointed. I know that he talked to a UPS FO at the fair, but he did not talk to Sharnika or Pam.

Did they give you any indication when the window would re-open? That is his main concern.

Also, what else did they say to you that left you with a positive impression? I may have to research a little more for my bud.

Pam told me possibly September, and my friend talked to one of the FO's. He was told June or July. The positive part was being able to apply without transoceanic experience in a future window. Of course none of us really know what will happen. I left there with a good feeling for future hiring.

I also talked with Pam at the job fair, and was encouraged by what she had to say. The UPS window will open again this year, possibly in September. Most likely there will be two applications, one requiring trans-oceanic time and one that doesn't. Be sure to choose the right one because you can only fill out one application per year.

I was also told that the window will only be open until they reach 500 applicants.

Also, she confirmed that any '06 application, such as mine, is worthless.

Good Luck!
