or possibly just a young pilot who recently hit 1500 and is nervous about what comes next. Put yourself in that position and try to remember how it felt to finally get the qualifications (even if that was back in the 250 days) and how you’d feel if there was nothing to look forward to.

It’s an odd position be in considering the hiring history in this industry. Until the last few years, 1,500 hours was just a number. Right before the rona hit it was taken as a given that you would have multiple offers from the regionals as soon as you had the time. What was historically the minimum qualifications to even apply with a regional, suddenly became competitive experience. Hopefully the new people look at as a good life lesson rather than being shocked after getting hired by the regional of their choice, quickly upgrading, and then finding out that there is no guarantee of ever making it to a legacy. Many people who can check every box never get the call, many others don’t think that they need to check every box and somehow think that the phone will still ring. It’s a crap shoot, but you have to be in the game to win.

It can be a blessing to be overlooked. I have friends who wished for Delta and SW but never got the call despite having all the qualifications. They are now senior at ULCC's and safe from all but a collapse. Had either of them gotten the call they would be sweating out the current conditions or already furloughed.

I think most Regional pilots would rather have a furlough number from a legacy then being at a Regional with no hope of getting hired by a legacy for at least 5 years, probably more. Especially when Regionals themselves are furloughing, and those that arn't are working min schedules with very little opportunity for OT.

. ULCCs may be different, but then again this isn't a ULCC forum.

FYI on the topic of hiring, HR has been emailing all the CJOs almost monthly. The latest email they sent said that they "We will evaluate the status of all CJO’s extended in January 2021 and provide further information at that time."

Friendly heads up

Not this pilot. I don’t know how long you’ve been in the game, but I’ve been in a couple of down turns and this company was able to provide for my family when we’re tough. In 2008 when people were throwing themselves out windows. I had a job, and I was grateful for that.

Id rather be gainfully employed as a regional captain than a couple years into a major hoping to get on right seat flying a king air or a citation mustang for John Does Chevy dealer or back to flying around air China students all day for less than half my previous salary. That’s just me.

I'm guessing we're going to release them all. CJO's are only good with us for 6 months because of background check and pria stuff, so my guess is they can't keep them in the pool anymore. That, and we won't need pilots for a good while
