My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who heard United is hiring 1,500 pilots in the next 12 months. I guess it's pretty serious.

In all reality what’s the best way to get hired outside of Aviate, without and internal recs?

The only real way to get an interview is to check as many boxes as you can on an application to hopefully increase the odds that a computer will score your application high and draw your name out of the hat. There is an incredible amount of dumb luck getting invited to an interview in this industry considering how many equally qualified applicants there are competing for a limited number of positions.

Put your application in and be (well) qualified when the flood gates open.

It would appear that the Aviate route is the way NOT to get hired. Time will tell, but all class slots thus far have gone to OTS hires.

because all of Aviate's current members just got their instrument tickets ?

A joke yes, but it's not without precedent.

A million years ago there was a bottom-of-the-barrel 135 commuter outfit near my homedrome that had an ad in the paper for new FO's for their fleet of old worn-out Beech 99s. They had truly laughable mins for what they paid. 3000TT, 2000ME, 1000 PT6. or something similar. And a big ugly disclaimer in the ad about not bothering to apply unless you met their stringent minimum requirements.

A local CFI got her multi-engine ticket one week and was in their ground school the next.

That was almost 40 years ago.

Later on, I was a Captain for Brand X which folded. I found myself interviewing the next week at Brand Y where they proudly told me just how unqualified I was to fly their Shorts SD330. The only reason that I was there was because I was current in 135 ops as Captain in the NE. Yet, one of my classmates had remarkable non-credentials.

It's a funny industry.

All of Aviate's current members are airline pilots or 135 freight dogs.

The school hasn't opened yet or maybe I should say hasn't opened for business as United Aviate Academy or whatever it will be called, I guess they bought a working flight school.

Anyway, I hope this is true. Hiring 1500 pilots in a year would be a good sign.

I’ve heard a handful of aviate hires start training in Denver as Fleet Training Instructors next month... once they apparently get some experience (year?) they’ll flow into a new hire class.
