Quote: Is this based on your 2 years of flying in JFK? Or based on what your friends are telling you?
Because I can’t log onto HJB and look at the bid awards???
What are you getting at? You need a decade to know this stuff?

Isn’t it more or less common knowledge as well? The trips here are terrible. I’m relatively junior, having been here less than 5 years, and until something changes I don’t see things improving. 17 year captains can’t avoid the redeye train. The open time speaks for itself... Such is life, I suppose.

I can't believe there aren't fatigue calls on most of those trips. Redeyes always suck, but it seems like the company has been pushing the envelope on how they are built, putting them at the beginning of a trip, followed by am shows etc..

It seems the company is trying to avoid building as many trips that end with a red-eye for BOS/JFK crews and avoid building 13:30s. There are way less of both of those in the bid pack the last few years. Avoiding the ADG rig in my opinion, and making LAX QOL pay for it.

Are you trying to tell me that nobody likes the LAX-LAS evening flight, sit for 2:43, and then continue on a red-eye flight to ___?
(O.K., most of those trips you only sit for 1:30, but still...two legs with a red-eye)

Those are amongst my favorites. I also enjoy the 5-day multi redeye trips, preferably those with at least 2 nights at the BOS Hampton and/or the JFK Hilton. But hey, I’m driving to work so it could be worse.

You’re pushing at 10PM to 12AM body time on THE FIRST LEG, often, and for a 6+ hour duty day. How can a normal middle-aged person recover to anything approaching 70% capacity in the 24 hours after that?

Honestly, I believe the reason that more people don’t call out fatigued on these because they’re fatigued every single time. They’re USED to it.

The only truly safe way to do these is one leg out, DH back, done. My 2¢

Any update on how long it takes to hold LAX and how’s the progression? Reserve?

Some new hires have been given LAX (apparently at least one BOS guy not by choice). There were several LAX vacancies unfilled by the system bid that will go to newhires. As for progression and reserve I couldn’t tell you other than junior CA went from 1300-1400 to 2600 on this last bid. That’s a 2014 or 2015 hire I think.

Thanks for the response! Would be nice not to commute, but also wouldn’t mind a move.
