Quote: think majors actually care jet or prop? Thought TPIC was TPIC? (Genuinely curious)
you think sticking out into eh Q to become a check pilot trumps turbo jet Time? That’s boat I’m in sticking out t prop for CKA to to better my odds to get out.
Or think it’s better to just go the jet
There's been numerous discussion on this over the years, and there's even one in the majors forum right now.

Bottom line, some years ago the majors (some of them at least, specifically legacies) noticed that people with previous jet time were less likely to have training problems, so they like to see at least some jet time, 121 ideally, just to show you can be trained. WN is believed to not care either way however, so there's that.

Not going to be a deal breaker, but I'd recommend jet time if you can get it.

Thanks everyone for the replies! For the originally post you have all helped me make my decision to stick with QX and I can not wait to start the 121 experience!

In regards to jet time vs Turbo prop one of my dream airlines is Kalitta and they specifically ask for turbofan time in the requirements so that has leaned me to training on the jet! But I think the Q is an awesome plane and haven’t met a single person flying it who doesn’t love the experience

For what it’s worth, I flew with a captain (on the Q) a couple weeks ago who was on his way out for a 747 class at Kalitta. All he had was turbo prop time.

Let’s say you live 10 minutes away from GEG and already have over 2000 TT and 1000 TPIC military jet heavy time, and you’re current. Is it worth going to the Q to build more time and 121 experience, or still better to go to the 175 (and now have to commute) while waiting on the call from a major? Is the jet time really that much better to justify a commute when you already have multi-jet PIC time? Genuinely curious if the commute to SEA would be worth the 175 time.

Get your civilian equivalent ratings (assuming KC-135) and get your apps in. In this environment you are already competitive for a number of majors. You might get an offer while going through the monkey motion of applying to a regional.

If you don’t ask you aren’t going to get.

Already have the equivalent ratings added, going to get the CFII and MEI added as well when I get home from a deployment. Figured I’d start thinking about back up plans in case it takes longer than expected though. Definitely appreciate the vote of confidence, hopefully it becomes a non-issue.

Good, but do you have the apps in? Right now there are majors taking regional guys with no TPIC. You are already competitive, although an ATP might expedite things a little. Nor do you have to wait for your separation date. Most places will hold a CJO open for six months if you aren’t yet available.

175 doesn’t matter. Definitely take the Q out of GEG. All you need to do is check that 121 box, if even that.
