Its the same size as a 777. Why would they replace it with something larger?

Somewhat debatable in terms of lift and range (all theoretical with the 350 Cargo variant) but given the loads and outlook seems a reasonable replacement. It would pain me to fly an Airbus product but the cost savings in dry cleaning with the dinner tray could compensate.

Ultimately what does it matter since they pay the same and the intention to replace internally is most important? Outside of that it could be any number of reasons from price, availability, weight savings, politics, etc.

Same caveat that the A350F is not even a paper airplane yet, but in one of the articles I came across yesterday about it, it appears that the Airbus could have a very similar payload capability to the MD-11 and with more cargo volume. Combine with new aircraft reliability, fuel efficiency, etc...who knows what could happen.

I could see us placing the first order simply to keep UPS or Amazon from getting them quickly. If we can push their deliveries off by 3-5 years, that’s a win.

If the A330neo as an MD-11 replacement is not happening because the wingspan is bigger, then the A350 definitely isn't either.

Yea at some point they have to make the decision either to just use more 767’s to replace the MD, which would use more spots as you need more 767’s to Carry what an MD does it just redo spots to fit modern aircrafts increased wingspans. Either way you have a parking spot issue.

Already using multiple 767 to cover the loss of the MDs in certain cities.

Now we do need aircraft. The dollars that Brian described to you that we'll be spending over the next 3 years, we've got plans to acquire about 27 aircraft.

Some of that includes the big freighters that Scott needs to move cargo around the world. Some of it is actually replacing our older MD11 fleet. We've got about 40 MD11s. They’re average age -- they're the oldest aircraft we have in our fleet, the average age is up 27 years. So we're going to start to replace those aircraft at the end of this 3-year period. So that's just will almost become like maintenance spending, I think.

As you heard from Nando, we're expanding capacity by expanding weekend. We're not spending capital on that or we're spending some expense dollars. You might talk, Nando, what it means to expand the weekend.”
