Going to be staying at the Hilton Anatole for 50-55 days. Nice hotel and all, can't complain, that's for sure (coming from the regional lifestyle) but were stuck with only a mini fridge and (god I hope) a microwave in the rooms. Three or four restaurant options in the hotel, which, being that we are not recieving per-diem during training, isn't exactly cost effective. Hoping someone can give me some pointers and suggestions on some options for cost-effective food options during training. Unfortunately a PBJ and a bag of Lays will only suffice for lunch, but for dinner I need something somewhat filling (training for a Denali summit causes one to eat a lot)...and knowing how new-hire training goes, I don't foresee myself having the time or energy to hunt down food every night. I've been in airline training (regional) but had the luxury of a kitchenette in my room..

Thanks in advance! Beyond excited to be here.

Depends on your transportation. If you have a vehicle it’s a game changer. Whataburger is nearby, open late. If you want to have some good BBQ, head to the Hard-8 for Texas Pit BBQ. You won’t leave there on an empty stomach.

Speaking of... what say you, Eeyore? When are we having the BBQ party?

Make friends with someone with a car, load up the mini fridge with food from a grocery store. Eat from the room for breakfast, bring lunch to the training center. Eat out for dinner…again…make friends with someone who drove.

I assumed we would next time you’re here for either CQ or upgrade, but my board’s unlocked. Let me know when you want to go.

Really looking forward to it.

Just a friendly reminder... no mom's gift cards.

But seriously, there’s quite a few good places to eat within walking distance from the Anatole. Just go east to southeast-ish and there’s lots of great places that are a 10-15 minute walk and it not a high traffic area so walking isn’t unsafe.

Agree, plenty of places to eat. Also may be a good time to invest in dash pass or Uber gold.

Amazon delivery for groceries. Eating out and in the hotel gets old, expensive, and fattening.

If all else fails, buy an e bike or scooter and sell it after training is done. Instantly extends your range by like 10 miles.

If you can, bring a car. There is another thread where we are talking about this.

There is a room that has a few microwaves the hotel lets us use, the food in the SWA cafeteria isn’t too bad. I know a few people in my class who went out and bought or brought crockpots, microwaves and toaster ovens so that’s an option. I know not having a kitchenette isn’t exactly convenient but between all the options we all managed to survive. Or you can always sneak into one of the conventions at the hotel and raid their bar and buffet!
