The guys I know that went there never said anything about it, maybe. I think the you will pay either way. Not monetrily so to speak. Whether you like it or not, low pay, lots of legs, working for substandard managment, and the real peach, being a B1900 flight instructor whether you want to or not.

It's a use-use relationship, kinda like MESA.

Quote: Hey everyone- looking for some info on Gulfstream airlines. I'm currently on the CRJ200 and commuting to Detroit from Tampa (not an easy thing). I hear that Gulfstream is hiring and has a domicile in Tampa. Any thoughts on them? Do they hire from outside their PFT school? What are the times for upgrade there and what are the chances of getting hired as a street captain? QOL?

I dont want to take a step backward in my career by going somewhere where I make less than what I do now, but commuting is starting to take its toll on me. The appeal of living where I want to live in domicile is the real reason I'm considering it. Anyone know of any other outfits that are hiring in the area?

Thanks for the help!
Please don't do it. That is as polite as I can be.

Whats the reason? Is there something else I don't know about Gulfstream? I am expecting to work long days for a lot less as a captain than I would make most other places if I go over there. Also its kind of a given that I will have to fly with low time pilots, but that goes with the territory there. I suppose any place you go has negatives, and lets face it- the regional airline industry sucks for the most part but you just have to put in your time and move on.

Your going to have to commute anyway once you move on. I dont know any "major" airline with a TPA base. So the question is do you want to fly a 1900 for a crappy company for crappy wages just to do what you are doing now?

Would one be able to hold a line in PBI right out of IOE? What is the order of bases, based on seniority?

to the best of my knowledge new hire captains will not be placed in tampa. Tampa and PBI are the two best bases that they have. There's rumors of new bases in the north east and I'm quite sure they will be the junior bases.

As far as holding a line right out or IOE...as an FO very possible, as a street hire captain, extreamly unlikely. You'll have probably 100 FO's senior to you that will continue to upgrade and get lines before you.

What are the junior bases? How long would it take to hold Tampa?
I would expect to be beneath all the upgraded FOs- its like that anywhere. Thats the problem with being a street captain- you will be at the bottom for a while any way you look at it.
