Your a very experienced pilot...compared to your potential UPT classmates (They likely have never manipulated flight controls in their life)
Check w/ the airline- you might be able to keep your seniority AND go into the AF. One of my flight instructors was also an ARMY reserve guy (non-pilot). He got hired by Horizon and, shortly after, got called up to go to IRAQ for 1 yr. He kept his seniority and had a job when he got back.
While you can stay at your airline and continue to gain seniority, you might also be passing up a shot at flying the C-5 Galaxy. With your experience, you will likely get whatever plane you want...provided the orders pop for it. I would much rather build C-5 /C-141 time rather than RJ time. You'll be a good candidate for the majors after one tour.
There are guys with plenty of hours that have washed out of UPT. I'd venture to guess most had a poor attitude versus a lack of flying skill. UPT goes way beyond private pilot stuff, to include: instruments, formation, aerobatics, low level navigation... Students have flown before showing up to UPT unless they have totally eliminated flight screening or whatever they call it these days. Not to be a dick, but you're a Navy rescue swimmer. You haven't been to UPT and don't know what it's like. Kudos for being a rescue swimmer though, I'd probably drown...Originally Posted by Acoustic2
