I've ridden up front a few times and was surprised at how quiet it is for an RJ. If you want a QC-2 look on craigslist or poke around the SWA guys. I know of a couple pilots that got a good deal on them from SWA guys.

I fly the CRJ200, CRJ700, and CRJ900. I see a lot of different headsets being used. I use the Sennheiser HMEC 25-KA. It has ANR (two AA batteries), it is compact, and very comfortable. The CRJ200 is by far the noisiest airplane of the three but even without the ANR on it works great. It has lasted me for over 5 years already with no signs of needing to be replaced. I used to be a CRJ200/700/900 guy. Used a classic David Clark for a while, then switched to the Lightspeed Mach 1 In-Ear headset. I will never use a different headset. Hands-down the lightest and most comfortable on the market. The customized ear-pieces become very comfortable after about a week of solid usage. You can change which ear you want to the mic boom to be attached to. If you have a jumpseater on board, you can remove one ear piece, not miss a radio call and still have a perfectly audible conversation. Plus, it comes with a modulator allowing you to use the headset as an earpiece for your cell phone. Additionally, for what it's worth and I never tried it because I don't believe in listening to music in the flight deck, you can plug your iPod into it and the radio calls will intermix over the music.

Only downside is that it's rather pricey $ $ $, but worth the investment IMHO. I traded my 4-year old DC's (used and abused since I started my flight training) to Pilotshop (pilotshop.com) here in PHX and got 160 for them.

One other downside is that it is not TSO'd. Some companies require this in their ops. manual and a super anal fed could initiate enforcement action for using a non-TSO approved headset at those airlines. Before buying a Mach-1, check to see if your company requires TSO'd headsets or not.

I fly the CRJ7 and use a Telex 500 ANR. Only negative is 9 volt batteries. I use rechargeables. Each one normally gets me through a 4 day trip. If I use off the shelf batteries I get a good 40 hours out of it. Light weight, small and makes it very quiet inside.

Since you're not flying the noticeably noisier -200, I'd recommend the Clarity Aloft Pro setup. It's TSO'd, you can add molded ear pieces (I did), and no batteries.

Super, super lightweight, and doesn't even touch the top of your head. Only contact is the top of your ears, similar to sunglasses.

If you can't afford both, I would definitely consider noise reduction vs light weight comfort in the CRJ7/9. Yes you can have a normal conversation in moderate voice but not for 5-8 hours per day, it's still pretty loud.
