I am posting this here only because most of the furloughs seem to be happening in the regionals than anywhere else. These are very interesting times and demand a different way of marketing yourself. Anybody have other novel ideas?

From Associated Press:
NEW YORK - After nine fruitless months of looking for work, Paul Nawrocki turned to a Depression-era tactic to find a job.

Over the past few days the 59-year-old businessman has been walking the sidewalks of midtown Manhattan wearing a suit, a tie, and a large signs that reads, "Almost homeless."

"My unemployment benefits are going to run out in less than a month. I was getting a little panicked and I didn't know what to do," said Nawrocki, who was laid off from his job at a toy company last February.

i think we should all start sitting on the curb in our uniforms with coffee cans asking for money. the respect has long left this industry and so has the pay. at least then it would wake-up america to the crap we put up with in this profession. i'm sorry but when a regional pilot is making poverty level to FLY a 30 million jet through icing conditions, experience an inflight emergency, and land with a max x-wind on one engine with the lives of 53 people minimum in his hands working on about 6 hours regulated rest cause the van ride, uniform ironing, shower and shave arent considered REAL SLEEP something is WRONG! although that scenario might not present itself on a regular basis...its still possible and does happen!

Maybe we should all show up to the airport in uniforms collect baggage carts and return them for .25
Or better yet wait behind the airport food court for scraps.

I know some people who pushed wheel chairs when they needed the money, we could do that in uniform.

And you'd probably see one of the most efficient wheel chair operations out there....Only cause we KNOW how annoying it is when the chair isn't there...There'd be no waiting around if i was pushing the cart...plus, i hear the tips are pretty good as well, and we already have the hat going for us.

Here's the sad truth:

The public perception won't be changed by a bunch of "spoiled, whiney pilots". They don't care. The only thing they care about is saving an extra $5 on their $200 JFK-LAX roundrip. Then they ***** about paying to check their bag.

i have said time and time again since airlines are all about the "surcharges" they should add a pilot surcharge on the ticket. would you feel better buying a ticket that had a 1.00 dollar pilot surcharge or 5.00 pilot surcharge? i would imagine most would go for the 5.00 dollar one. think about it. 5 bucks times 100. thats 500 bones. no need to blame the pilot now for the reason an airline isnt surviving. only a single dollar surcharge would go a long way. i have only heard people say that they want their pilots well paid and rested. it isnt asking alot and it can do alot for all of us. i myself have kids and even on mainline pay i am hurting.

Dude?... Who do you work for?

I prefer to chase dreams down, grab it by the nose and kick it in the teeth until it submits. Repeat as desired
