What's the latest word on the fast approaching date of this Thursday 8/27?? Is Amerijet wanting to talk with the union? Are the pilots really ready to stand unified and strike? I stand behind and hope all AJT pilots realize that thursday may be their big chance to be taken seriously. Things probably couldn't be much worse, but they could be A LOT better!

Sooooo according to a number of old time AJ guys it appears that the so called strike appears to be a bunch of hype made by newbies to the company. No dues have been paid by anyone to date… so where’s the union? The 27th will come and the 27th will go. Either way… good luck during these difficult economic times. If they choose to go the union route, hopefully they will form an in-house association. No third party to blow one’s money away on who really does not give a rats a$$ about them other than their own pockets.

I love old salts like you. No information, no knowledge, but people like yourself love be the "wise old man" in this business. Obviously you know nothing of the IBT or the RLA or how things are done during labor actions. For your information, I know a lot of old time AJT guys, you are speaking to the fools that let AJT push them around for so many years. If they would have made a stand ten years ago, when I worked with them, these current pilots wouldn't have such absymal conditions. We had to fight for **** bags! Personally these so-called old timers numbered very few, and I remember them well. One went to Southwest, and I will garauntee you that he appreciates his union lifestyle.
There are no new agitators. The main agitators are ex-AJT pilots who refused to let Mr. Bassett and his cronies get away with this non-sense with a younger group of pilots. It meant that much to them that they don't want anyone to repeat what they had to go through, that they volunteer their time and resources to make this a better industry.
You are right, the 27th may come and may go. Your knowledge of how the IBT does a labor action are non-sensical. Don't speak of which you do not know. There are numerous options at their disposal. And for your statement that no dues has been paid, the IBT never takes dues until a contract is signed. They have been doing everything for free, and frankly, they have probably drained a lot of money on this little group.
Finally, forming an in-house union is absolutely hilarious. Why don't you ask Miami Air what happened to their in-house union. They are now represented by the IBT.
It is attitudes like yours that has brought us to where we are as professionals. It is time to move on and let the younger pilots take your seat.

I guess I'm one of those guys who doesn't know very much about them either, especially how the IBT Airline Division runs a "labor action."

In the event that the IBT does call a strike, I assume that the company would be permitted to hire replacement workers. APC shows that you have 57 pilots, or about 19 crews. Are those numbers accurate?

Any idea how many 727-qualified, out-of-work or "retired" over-60 pilots and F/E's there are in the Miami area? Nationwide?

Is there anything to prevent the company from subcontracting work out to other carriers while new-hires are being trained?

Are there any other unions performing essential functions at AJT who will support you if you strike?

I realize that you have to keep the option of a strike open while you're in negotiations, but where do you, personally, feel you can exert more influence upon management...with your hands on "The Money Levers" or carrying a sign while walking a picket line across the street? (Let's assume for the sake of discussion that AJT management is reading every word of your response, because they probably are)

In any union action, it's always the guys at the bottom of the food chain who face the biggest obstacles in securing a fair contract. I wish you all the best in doing so.

No group will ever get a fair contract unless they are unified and willing to strike. This could not hold any more true than the Amerijet situation. A pilot would have to be the absolute lowest of low to become an "Amerijet scab"; but there just might be some ex Eastern 727 'pilots' out there!
