You guys do a standardization course out there in PRC? I wish they would have done that in DAB. I came in with my private, and just got thrown into the instrument course. Instructor chewed me out the first flights, because I was "doing everything wrong". It wasn't wrong to me, I just didn't know how Riddle wanted to complicate everything.

First Flight? If so you already had a knowledge of what was going to take place on that flight, plus an oral or 2, and probably a sim flight to practice before the real flight. If you got chewed out by your instructor during the flight (which i have been in the past) you were just not flying up standards on that particular instrument unit. not the instructor fault.

Bull. It wasn't the actual instrument stuff that I got "in trouble" for. It was riddle ops stuff (taxi speeds, ramp in/out, monitoring ramp frequency). The problem wasn't the actual flying stuff. It was an instructor that did nothing to explain how the system worked, before trying to teach other new stuff on top of it.

Employers do not care where you graduated from. They only care if you are willing to take the entry level wages. Don't buy into the hype of it's superior training crap. "Superior training" does not replace real world experience.

Case in point applicant A has been flying freight for Ameriflight for the past two years, applicant B has graduated from a super duper aviation university. Guess who is more qualified........

Step 1. Leave riddle and go get a real degree outside of aviation. It will be cheaper and more valuable.

Step 2. Get your ratings at the local flight school and avoid the time/money suck. As a bonus you just might enjoy your training instead of becoming a programmed automoton.

Come on people, Riddle shoots itself in the foot on so many issues, we don't need to make stuff up...of course someone with work experience and thousands of hours is going to have an advantage...they would be more qualified than a part 61 kid too...

I went to riddle (PRC) with a private and yes it took me a semester and a half to get to their private standards but it made me a way better pilot. I served my four years and a few summers, got my CFII and a degree. I worked hard and ya I kicked out an instructor for sucking. You just can't let Riddle walk on you. If you show them your dedicated they'll be serious with you. If you walk in to an activity slightly hung over with no idea what your supposed to go over they will just take your money. I graduated May 3rd and walked onto a job May 9. That was this summer when there was supposed to be no jobs. Yes, they're expensive. If I had a chance to do it over and go somewhere else, no.

I'll jump in and defend one of my peers...

See...I really don't understand this. I went to Riddle, and I couldn't care less where YOU trained... I have friends from Riddle that have great jobs, some have crappy jobs, and some are just unemployed... I have friends who went somewhere else...and have great jobs, crappy jobs...or are unemployed...
I in fact, have a job that pays the bills, which is more than a lot of my friends have in this economy.

I hope you enjoyed college, because I did...including my flight training.

Well said. I wish all students had the same mindset as this. I, personally, do not wish to take your (their) money. I am very fair with charging the oral time and try to make the flight as fast as possible. But when the student slacks off, there's really no choice for me but to pound the material in and becoming a hard&*#. If that doesn't work, don't expect to be flying at Riddle for very long. Management will keep a very close eye on you.

Take whatever route you deem best suits for yourself.
