Apply they just give you an LOA for 2 weeks. What is your TT?

Apply. If they like you they will wait two weeks until your birthday. Not really a big deal to them.

Listen, always apply. I don't turn 23 until July 2014 and I currently am in my 2nd year at a 121 airline.. True, many denied me like Eagle, Skywest, XJT/ASA, Lakes, but 2 121 carriers gave me jobs.

I work under one of the most favorable regional ALPA contracts. When I thought I had missed the deadline and would be stuck flying corporate, I made my way in.

It's not impossible, just get ahold of people. I had a training dept guy at ASA get my stuff to Baxter. Unfortunately they were stuck on the 21 year old deal then as well..

So what happens when the law says you have to have an ATP to be an airline pilot? I would not be surprised to see you get 11 months off unpaid.

Union wouldn't allow that.. Probably teach CPT, Indoc, or recurrent. FAA working on a waiver as well.

They just need to add in is... "any part 121 airmen hired on or before August 1, 2013 need not comply with the provisions of HR5900."

That would make life easier for a lot of folks.

What can the union do? It's not their fault that this pilot will be ineligible to acquire the FAA-required license to operate an airliner. I would not be surprised to see any of the above happen either.

I have always been amazed at the pilots that started at an airline at 20 or 21 and feel they have a huge head start on the game while never earning a degree, then getting upset 8-10 years later when he/she is still stuck working at the same regional. Just an observation I have made.

Quote: Yeah I mean I just feel like it's only 2 weeks that could screw me over!
When I was a CFI waiting for my Comair class date, I was worried what two weeks would cost me in career earnings.

9+ years later, I realize how silly that was. While I was worrying about days and weeks, events beyond my control were costing me years.

I know it's tough advice, but just try to relax and enjoy yourself. Hang out in the pilot lounge and network - that's where your future lies.

Great observation... I just earned my 4 year degree last May and am applying to Air National Guard/AFRC units. I'll make my way out of the regionals just fine.. Previous job experience puts me near 800 TPIC as well.. It's funny how your judgements can be so wrong about people.

Don't sweat it. It seems like a lot of his posts have a negative tone.

You have more TPIC than I do and I have been at a regional for 7+ years.

Keep up the good work, and I hope you get that guard slot.
