Continental still exists cause I have a CBA that I'm operating under that states "Continental Airlines"
When I go into the cockpit of my aircraft, they have all kinds of "Continental" paperwork attached.
When I go to my Union meetings, they are for/run by Continental Pilots.
(Tried to go to a United Pilots ALPA Meeting in LGA earlier this year.. was denied~)

Fact is.. while "Continental" May not exist per the "Operating Certificate''.. it still exists for over 4500 pilots.

Point being, if the "8 Ball" is a United tradition, but relates to United "New Hires".. why is it being used for United Furloughee Recalls?
That is the question.

Was it tradition for returning furloughees to have the 8 Ball in their class back when United was a stand alone carrier?

Guess we will go back and forth on this one. Point is, if two "United" Pilots decided they didn't want to play a "United" game since they didn't feel they were New Hires.. so be it~

Quote: "unbelievable"? Maybe they feel that it is a UAL thing, and not being a new hire at UAL, it doesn't "count".

I don't know why you are putting new hire in quotes. That is what we are at CAL....
"unbelievable"

because who in the world would not want to participate in what is truly a wonderful, fun, and (helpful to all) tradition.

"new hire"

because I was a new hire (no quotations) at United Airlines in 2000 and now I am again a "new hire" at United Airlines almost 13 years later.

You only get to have so much stress in life before you have a heart attack. I wouldn't waste any of it on this issue.

Quote: The 8 ball ceremony was alive and well for the UAL guys joining the CAL side of things, but then it came to a screeching halt when the new class that started AUG 15th, wanted nothing to do with it. So wanted to get the explanation out on why it had stopped, and now it's suppose to be up and running again for the next new class.

The Eight Ball in the AUG 15th class was a Phil McCarver. He adamantly refused to take the Ball because he felt the Eight Ball was suppose to be the most junior guy at UAL, not the most junior guy in class. One of his classmates, Tom Burns (who is a DENTK guy with a bad rap), was even more adamant that Phil should not do any of the Eight Ball duties. There were three guys in that new hire class and these two were the biggest douchebags the previous class has ever seen. It was explained that the Eight Ball ceremony was to celebrate the new class and transfer all the gouge for exams, shortcuts for studying, and other pertinent items but these guys were clueless. If you know either one of these guys, you can tell them they hampered all the previous efforts of guys who retrieved all of this valuable info. I have seen guys posting requests for 'study' materials and that would normally be given the first week in class, so I have to apologize for these two misfits. The next class started after the original class holding the ball had all gone on to the line. Anyhow, the BALL has been passed and it's alive and kicking.

1. Not exactly the way he says it went down, but each side has their own perspectives.

2. "The Ball" is the junior guy on the UAL seniority list...period. It is nice that is has been resurrected, in a close fashion at CAL as the UAL guys are being hired, but see point 1.

3. If you are going to be a douche and post someone's name on one of these boards, at least it get right.

With everything that is going on, this is what people are complaining about. IMHO if guys don't want to "play", who cares. If guys want to "play" let them, and don't attack either group for doing either.

BTW... Going along with JPos and calling UAL pilots in IAH "new hires"?

SP
Which goes along with lots of United pilots on here who are insisting they are being given hiring opportunities at CAL and are NOT "recalls." So if you are not a recall and you have never worked at CAL but have been given a job at CAL you are a new-hire aren't you?

Look, not trying to throw stones and stir the pot as I understand that a furloughed pilot with years and hours of experience should be treated different. However, the T&PA speaks for itself as do many of the pilots on here backing those terms up. Maybe the terms are wrong but they are what they are.

Just like "JPos" is childish name calling from supposedly professional aviators. Have a problem with him, fine. Many of us do, but just be an adult and use his name.

Quote: Horrido,
CAL no longer exists. It's UAL. There is the former CAL operation, but CAL is legally gone.........just saying.

Talk to somebody in person about the value of the ball ceremony. It shouldn't be discussed here.

Hey Dawg....

ASSuming you're working under "the offer", and that of a CAL POS'02.....turn to page #1 in the CBA. Last time I checked (outside some TPA provisions), your working under a "CONTINENTAL AIRLINES CBA" in case you missed it. To be very clear, I too am not too "stoked" on agreement, but don't let the facts mar your perception.

Never-the-less, regardless of your ire that you voluntarily brought via the "offer", Continental Airlines/CBA does still exist until we get an agreement.......But you knew that I'm sure.

BTW.....Got JCBA??

Terry

What is not exactly the way it went down? What didn't he get right?

Just curious what I'm missing - I was standing there.

I suggest the 8ball ceremony be held at Hoots.

The one off Greens, of course.
