TX Bus you're a grumpy person. What the PVC is doing is exactly what we need to do as a pilot group. And, the PVC represents you! That picture is ridiculous. Ask about the current applications and profiles on file. Your closed mindedness is overwhelming. When the ALPA arrives @ jetblue and the MEC has personally consulted you for your specific contractual demands you still won't be happy.
The facts are out on the table for everyone to see and understand. I've said it from the beginning of our union rants, there can not be harmony at this company unless there is a preservation of the existing open communication between the pilot group and management. We can have ALPA, IAW or JPA and still achieve this. Why you don't have anything constructive to present to attaining this harmony is an indication of your personal disdain for managemt and corporation. I say, "Drop your sword sir, and raise your constructive pen!" (Or in this case keyboard)

I saw this as well at WAI, but the line inside at the JetBlue booth was about 30-40 minutes and there were plenty of people interested in JetBlue there.
The JetBlue booth was near an open area, so a line to them wasn't a problem with fire exits or anything like that, so I can understand why there wasn't a long line outside.

The turning point moment I had in the union or not discussion came from talking to PVC members and hearing what they had to say about the true behind the scenes discussions with the company. There is no negotiation or compromise from the company standpoint. They listen to what the PVC says, and then do whatever they want.

Flyby,
This is the key to this discussion. If the company stalls, rebuts or refuses then the union is coming in. The company knew DAL and UAL were going to pass TA's that were in keeping with a profitable period of time. They used this opportunity to give a 3% raise and redistribute healthcare costs. This is a bait and switch tactic, and saves them a ton of dough. Now, if they balk they will lose their "direct relationship" and abide by the CBA. This will be a rough patch, in fiscal and economic "good times", for the pilot group and the company. If the company was playing through and by the DR rules, this would be a two-way communication to achieving both sets of goals.
Now, please share what ur PVC buddies have passed down about the company being dishonest.

As others said, it is really important to seek out a PVC member to hear it straight from them. Email your silo rep (you and I have the same rep) and ask him if there is a time to chat on the phone or meet in the crew room to answer some questions. He's a good dude and a great resource.

I also think the presentation was great from the PVC but there seemed to be one key component missing- cost. Many of us are quick to jump with needing industry average but- where is the part from the PVC that shows the company can actually afford all of these items? I'm ALL for the items in the presentation but showing the cost to the company would go a long way in demonstrating if it's realistic from a business perspective. I have no idea what these improvements will cost but I'm sure it's in the tens of millions and maybe more per year. When I see a high profit year in 2012 of 128 million (86/97 previous 2 years) I can't but wonder if all of our requests would quickly put the company in red and a balance sheet that resembles VA. I personally need more information then to blindly say "I expect industry average". I REALLY hope the math adds up, but I need to see it.
