To all the mil applicants who have interviewed out there, what did you take to the interview for the logbook review? I've painstakingly broken down every sortie from my extracts into a spread sheet which nicely captures my times. Is this sufficient for an interview or should I have my entire stack of extracts as well?

Quote: I interviewed at United in 2008. Easiest most relaxed interview I have ever had. It may have changed since but nothing to worry about. No prep required.
Wow how times have changed... or so I hear. Back in the early 90s... IF you could get an interview there, the only thing missing was the waterboard.

Your ARMS summary and an electronic logbook should be fine. Check out the threads on the forum about Logbook Pro or LogTen Pro. If you already put your flights on a spreadsheet you should be able to do a fast import and convert it over to an electronic logbook that prints out to look like a Jeppesen logbook.

I wouldn't worry about what kind of logbook you bring as much as I'd be concerned about accuracy. Make sure your stuff is correct, and be ready to defend it. Typically, those of us with military time are grilled over our "Other" time and any conversions you may or may not have applied. C-130 guys may not have this problem since you guys fly a lot more basic crew stuff.

Say hi to the Hollywood guard bros for me

concur.
it's probably best to leave military "other" completely off the application; even though it's permissible under 14 CFR 61.51.

But it DOES make for an interesting talking point in the interview!!

I called CV at United about this very thing thinking I'd be ok with just the ARMS summary. He said they wanted to see my whole record, so I checked out my entire USAF flying history binder from flight records and took it to Denver. I also had a separate log book I had transcribed all my civilian time into. No questions from the interviewers.

I took the entire green ARMS folder, with a brand new summary printout from the ARMS folks. I also took the STAN/EVAL folder as well. I thought this was vital when I was asked "have you ever failed a check ride?"

I always listed "other" time down. However, be prepared to explain other time. For C-130s, other time is still crew time, you could be a PADS operator or sitting on the bunk waiting your turn to fly. But, other time was listed separately, I just explained what other time was in the interviews I've been to.

Honestly, once you meet and exceed the minimums, having 3000 vs. 4000 isn't going to make much of a difference. Employers are going to want to see quality of time, not just quantity.

In response to the few who continue to *insist* that boobs are all it takes to get a job at a major... Sorry guys but you'll have to find another excuse why you're not getting called. I have a pair, plus very competitive time/quals and just got the "thanks but no thanks" and that was after a buddy got me the interview, not my gender. Embittered rant over.

For you Naval (USN/USMC/USCG) aviators, make sure ALL your log book pages are signed, and the quarterly and annual CO/OPSO signatures are in there. My interviewer was a Navy guy and poked me for missing some. Another HR rep made comment of some of my civilian logged time (just comments about funny comments). Point being, they definitely look through them!
