Yesterday, I was looking at the latest new hire class on catcrew. I noticed that the listed seniority number from the most junior person in the previous class to the most senior member of the latest class jumps 200 numbers (3577 to 3776). Have any of the more experienced Airways guys seen this before? Any idea why the company did this?

What month were you looking? The seniority list gets updated in Jan.

You're not the only one to notice this. The only thing I can come up with is they may have been slacking in purging the list for a while. Must have gone through and taken out all the zombie numbers (retirements from last year etc).

Edit: FreighterGuy beat me too it. Yeah, seems like the yearly update, 200 numbers seems about right for the whole year.

If you look in CATCREW on the Dec schedules 3577 is a March '13 hire on the Jan schedules 3577 is a Nov '13 hire.

If I remember correctly Jan 1 is when they update the sen. numbers. After that update you will keep that number in catcrew for the rest of the year. Even with people coming and going, that number will not change through the year.

Think higher/lower numbers are being confused here. New hires have gone from 35XX to 37XX. As though there were 200 added to the list somewhere. I'm showing a seniority number 200 higher (200 less senior) as well.

Speaking of CATCREW, how do bypass a secondary line to stay on reserve?

I don't know. On Wings there is a Catcrew Guide.. or you can call your chief pilot's office for a quick and authoritative answer.

It's in the CATCREW guide under Option 15. Essentially, though, I think you put RSVB in your first choice when you bid Secondaries. Someone with more CATCREW experience, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Really? I did miss that. It does look like there's a big gap. Nobody has a 36XX seniority number. It goes from 3577 to 3784.

Most everybody else moved UP in seniority (lower number) as of Jan. That's what I thought was being discussed. My apologies.

Best guess, somebody inputed the newest hire class numbers using the 2013 sequence after they'd already switched to the 2014 sequence

I wouldn't worry about it, unless they start inserting people with 36XX numbers. Chances are it'll get fixed at some point.
