Does anyone know how long the little rock course is to go legacy Herk to J model for an AC?

Thanks

C-130H to J conversion
Just did it last year but I got the initial qual. It was 5 months. The actual transition course is 3 months and it is no joke. Everyone that has done it that I know said it was relatively challenging. The initial qual one was much slower paced...not quite as slow as legacy training but plenty of time to master the plane.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. I guess I will leave the golf clubs at home.

It's nothing like the H schoolhouse, but I would still bring the golf clubs.

Bring em!
No experience on the 130 side of the house, but if it's like any other AF training course (except UPT) it's 1 or 2 months crammed into 3. ALWAYS bring the golf clubs!

I did the short course (PXB) in 2009. While you don't have as much time to absorb the info, it shouldn't be super hard for anyone that has experience in Herks. Biggest tip: drop the H-model mindset and embrace that you can do things differently. Guys get hung up on "that's the way we did it in the legacy" tend to have a harder time, but I'd bring your golf clubs too.

The academic/sim portion is more laid back. The flightline on the other hand, is very busy. Btw, despite it nuances, I love the J.

Klondike - how long have you flown the Legacy/H model? That will give you an idea of how easy or hard it will be - if you are new it will be a challenge and if you are OLD it may be also.
I went to J model school (albeit in 03 with Lockheed in Marietta) as a Maj and IP - having flown Es/Hs for 12 years and it was easy - but that was LM. I went to TAC SCHOOL in 07 as a J IP and Lt Col and it was relatively simple, with a few challenges as I had NEVER EVER flown SKE. See avatar on the left for an idea why (plus MCs are vis form)

There are enough similarities and differences to give you fits. It's no easier or harder than any other C-130 course. Bring your clubs and an OPEN mind because "well we did it this way in the H..." no longer applies. Have fun.

Does the J have the same crazy amount of Ops limits or have they made it more reasonable?

I don't remember a crazy number of ops limits.
