This was my first thought as well. Once on the ground I'd be outta that airplane and in his face faster than you could count to 10. And not because I was concerned about damage to the engine.

I just got hired by a DZ as well, but thankfully their airplanes don't have keys for ignition.

Diverdriver.com is a good source of info on drop zone ops. It's a fun job for low time pilots, but be aware that a ding on your record stays there forever, so keep that in mind when when jumpers lose their top chutes and want you to fly low altitude recon over houses to help them find it. Half the local populace calls the FAA saying that stupid jump plane is buzzing their house again.

Grass strip? If so, remember it does not brake like pavement... Did this a few years on weekends. Definitely enjoy at least a tandem for yourself. Improves understanding of the experience and camaraderie. Pack a lunch, don't waste time getting out to eat! Drag some friends out to watch and maybe ride along or jump. Had a family member ride along once with a video camera. Never forget that one... Get a photo of yourself - you'll always enjoy retelling the story better with pics!

Fly breeze slamming in the throttle and pulling it out is a 30k overhaul as it is assaulting someone you will just lose your job. Not necessary to get hasty about someone yanking the keys

I was offered a chance to be paid or free lessons. I would have taken a mixture of both if I had not been leaving for the military in short order. I just couldn't take a chance on injury at the time, but it is still something I think about now. Seems the place I flew for though is out of business At least it isn't listed on any websites. The name was Paradise Parachutes near Goldsby, OK if anyone was familiar. The airport still shows up on the most current sectional - just south of K1K4 (David Jay Perry Airport).

When did I say anything about slamming throttles around? Everything in my post is how to keep your engine healthy. And as far as somebody pulling your keys and jumping with them, that's something that happened back in the70's and 80's. Jumpers these days have enough sense not to do stuff like that. But as far as popping somebody that has it coming? Jumpers are a tough breed, if they deserve it they will take it like a man. One drop zone I worked at, one of the pilots punched out another pilot. The owner just laughed at the guy that got hit and nobody lost their job, everybody agreed he had it coming. Would I do that at my airline job, nooooooo. Yeah diverdriver.com is good, I know the guy, flew with him on the 300-way in 2003, 14 twin otters in formation. Way Fun!!

Wow, thanks for all the great info guys, I really appreciate it. I'll make sure to keep an eye on the keys and the fuel selector for sure . So far I have checked out diverdriver, the FAR/Aim and the Advisory circulars along with reading up on the 182. I'm pretty pumped about the opportunity, and its something until I finish up my CFI.

You might get away with it at the dropzones that YOU worked at. But a dripping wet commercial pilot isn't going to punch someone out after they just landed their first gig. I gurantee it. It isn't like the 70's and 80's were you can pull that crap and get away with it. You are old school. You can't do that today and not expect to pack your bags. Different times bro.
