Carrying a firearm legally is not an irrational or evil act. It's a decision. One makes to protect themselves since the police have ZERO duty to protect you thanks to multiple SCOTUS rulings over the last few hundred years.

OP: Depending on the state laws a "no guns" sign may or may not carry any legal weight. Carry legally and remember: "Concealed means concealed".

You are renting the plane which means you are responsible for it and all of its contents. Read your rental agreement and see if firearms are prohibited.

To the OP, are you trying to become a professional pilot?

If so, just the leave the weapon at home when flying. If you have ONE SINGLE incident with possession of a firearm, you will NEVER be hired by any airline. This would include on flight school property/aircraft if their rules preclude it. Most employers and schools today categorically preclude firearms on-site due to liability. Even if no laws were broken, you don't want a reference check turning up the fact that you were fired or expelled for firearms possession...you'd better off with multiple DUIs, seriously.

Why, exactly? Who are you flying with that you fear for your life?

In some parts of the U.S. Firearms are not frowned upon and are treated as an common implements or tools of the trade.

Btw, there is a "criminal element" that exploits GA. So I wouldn't be against being prepared.

I see no problem carrying a loaded firearm while flying, as GA is considered a "soft target."

It would be nice to see GA pilots attend an amended FFDO type course in order to get familiar with FISA areas and related laws.

Good Answers... I plan to carry because i normally carry everywhere, and GA should be no exception. With that being said, is it neccessary to let the flight school know? That's one question I have not gotten a clear answer from.

Essentially all schools and private employers have bans on weapons possession, either because they believe anti-gun crap, pander to those who do, or for liability reasons (ie their insurance requires it).

If you get kicked out of flight school (or any other kind of school) for weapons possession your career is screwed if the airlines ever find out.

If you get fired from a job, or get convicted, for carrying a weapon where it's not authorized, your airline career is 110% screwed.

Some locales may have laws making it a crime to carry a weapon on private property against the wishes of the owner...this has the effect of criminalizing a weapons ban at a business establishment.

Do yourself a favor, leave the damn thing at home until you get an airline job, then do FFDO training and carry all you want.
