Quote: It's 6-7 short call periods. Each short call period is 12 hours long.
Thank you.

What does the contract say about short call days off? Do you end up flying on your days off then get rewarded monetarily as opposed to being give days off?

Saabs is referring to that our MTA says we get 12 days off per 30 day month and 13 per 31 day. Yet we are getting only 11 off as per the old US Airways (east) contract. It's been nearly a year. So guys who've been reserve this last year have essentially lost 18 days off. Basically, they've worked an extra month for free.

In the current hiring environment, with the post merger Mega Airlines employing several thousand pilots,
reserve rules will become a major QOL factor for a larger number of pilots.
Depending on age, many new hires may be quite junior for their entire careers.
Sharing your airline's reserve rules will benefit us all, especially come negotiations time.

Thanks to all who posted.
Happy Holidays!

WN-

Short call only
15 days off a month
90 trip guarantee (not sure what that equates to in hours)
2 hour callout to report time. Not unusual for schedulers to ask if you can shorten it up, but you are not required to.
Trips assigned as mentioned above. Days remaining first, lowest reserve block second, pilot preference to fly or pass third. Often preassigned the day prior.
RAP times are either AM or PM and are published when you get your line. 14 hours long. Typical for AM is 0330 - 1730. PM usually starts somewhere around 11am. Don't have to answer phone until RAP starts.
Can trade pilot to pilot for reserve and flying. Can give away to another pilot. Cannot trade or give away to company.
Other pilots can poach reserve trips up until report time.
Last day release after 9 hours if not assigned. No call required.

Only paid extra for reserve trips if you exceed your reserve guarantee for the month by flying or if you are moved up or reassigned into something that pays premium. This leads to "sitting for free" at the end of the month if you are close to your reserve guarantee in flying (ie - flew 89 trips for the month and have 2 days of reserve left.

My opinion - just happy to be here, but being a reserve commuter is tough with the rules above. Can't wait to hold a line.

Quote: After some search, I have not been able to find the most current information on the basic reserve rules of non-regional carriers.

Please chime in, with your company's rules.
Feel free to share as much as you think is important.
At minimum please include:

Guaranteed flight hrs. and min. days off per month.
Reserve periods. (times, long/short)
Call out time. (max time call to show)
Call out priority and list. (who flies first)
Trade policy, open time pick up, drops.
Overtime.
Average days called and hrs. flown per month.

Thanks for your input.

75 hr guarantee , 13 days off/month.
Long call 15 hr callout. Short call 2 hrs for SFO/LAX and 3 hrs for NYC.
Call out priority is typically done with day matching and lowest block hour credit. There is a call me first, call me last list, but day matching and lowest block are usually the first metrics.
No open time pick up.
Trade/Drops not usually approved. I believe a new change allows the first or last day of a reserve stretch to be moved around to another reserve stretch at the beginning/end but the reserve grid for those affected days has to be green.
Overtime? I suppose you can pick up a reserve day. There is some extra monetary incentive for example if you finish beyond a certain time of your last day of reserve (eg, reserve window ends 3pm but your flight gets done at 9pm). This gets an additional pay on top of the 75 hr guarantee.
Avg days called and flown depends on the base and season/month. Some guys are getting used up all the time, while others I've heard are headed to the sim for their 3 TOs/Ldgs.

Anyone care to post how it works at Delta? I know its probably been covered in one of the 180,000 posts on the latest and greatest but it would be nice to have it here and be able to compare/contrast.

In an effort to avoid redundant posts I've included this link from the Frontier Hiring Thread.

Reserve at Frontier

Only thing I didn't mention there is the Long & Medium Call reserve options. 12 and 10.5 hour call out respectively. Used first before short calls if they can get them in time.
