TSA is making a change to the KCM program, effective Jan. 13, 2015, by no longer requiring airline crewmembers to be in uniform when using the KCM checkpoint.

General Aviation Now in Known CrewmemberŽ (KCM)

Airlines for America (A4A), Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), along with the National Air Transportation Association (NATA), have announced that the Known CrewmemberŽ (KCM) program will be made available to members of the air charter community. Air charter pilots, including Part 135 and Part 125, are welcomed to enroll in the expedited security screening program. Eligible aircraft operators, pilots and other crewmembers who want to participate in this program must apply for a two-year badge online through the secured NATA Compliance Services website. Please visit NATA's website for more information on how to join the program and its associated benefits for members.

So will we be able to go through as a non-rev after a couple cold beers? Not that I ever would.

And bring our own beers?!?!??!?!??!

That's the problem. They loosen the requirements a little and some knucklehead will dork it up for all of us.

I guess I don't understand what's at issue here...?

If you're non-revving (NOT jumpseating, standard non-rev), what's the issue with having a couple of cold beers beforehand?

If you're transiting a security checkpoint as a crewmember (i.e., KCM), what's the issue with bringing beer (or any liquid) through?

I'm NOT talking about being loud, drunk, and shotgunning a beer while going through the KCM checkpoint. I'm taking the questions at face value: I'm off duty, I'm not in uniform, then I have a beer or two outside security and/or I'm carrying an unopened can/bottle of beer through KCM for my non-rev flight. What rules have I broken? Honest question from a guy pretty new to the 121 world....

Not a ALPA cheerleader, but we owe them a thank you for their work on KCM. There is no mention of APA, USAPA, IPA, SWAPA etc. on this press release.

You must abide by the rules for what you intend to do. A non revenue passenger is subject to the same no liquids rule as regular passengers. It's a honor system at KCM.

So, are you saying that if I am commuting to or from work that I am subject to the same liquids rule as a regular pax?
