G1000 ???

Is there any way in the G1000 to force a "fly over" waypoint rather than it defaulting to "fly by"? In the UNS1 and Proline 21 it is pretty simple but I can't figure it out in the G1000.

I guess I have never had a waypoint to try that.

Something you could do is put the CDI in OBS mode until you arrive at the waypoint, then change it back(not sure this will be smooth).

If there is a programmable way, I would assume it would be in the FPL page, highlighting the waypoint and then hitting the Menu button. This is my best guess, but I don't recall ever seeing it as an option.

That wouldn't be much different than just flying it in heading mode. I am looking for a way to make the FMS work for me.

Don't think so, it reverts to normal turn radius and fly-by if it's not a fly-over. What's the purpose?

Not possible.
We tried many years ago to advice them to have similiar function.
ATC here at times ask for estimate time abeam a point that is not on our flight plan. Rather than going to nearest page and see the distance and calculate with your GS, it will be much easier with the function you mentioned. But unfortunately at the moment G1000 does not have that.
Maybe in the future they have a sfotware update with this function.

I have about 400 hours in the G1000 and while it is a GA system and maybe even good for the local rich guy's plane, I don't feel like it is a good "commercial" system. There are just several things that you can't do with it that you can do with the PL21 and even the UNS1. Proline itself seems to have tried to idiot proof the system but it is easy to work around the things you need to and get what you want.

James, a good example is doing an approach. Say you are coming from the East and shooting the ILS for RW9. If you want to start at the initial the G1000 actually won't go to that point. It will factor in the distance it needs to make the turn and take that away from the point so you may be a mile or so in front of the point you want to be at making a turn. Yes I know stateside you would never be doing a 180 degree turn to intercept an ILS but I am not in the states. This is over simplified but you get the picture. Also with the work I do, sometimes you actually need to fly over a specific point and not just turn somewhere that the Garmin has deemed close enough.

That part is easy enough, just make a point "in line" with another point and spaced out enough, no actual course change. Enter the coords in a flight plan.

I think you are missing the point entirely. HeckI could just hand fly a 6 pack around and save the money on all the fancy avionics all together.

I haven't flown g1000 in a while but could you press the red button and put the left side on the right, and have the GPS up on the right, then fly heading on the left?

There are many ways to get around the short fall. The original post was to find out if there is a way to make the FMS fly over a waypoint on its own.
