Do disrespect to this chap but he's ready to get back flying.

What's two more years to an already 8 yr upgrade at a regional? At least I have a line now.

It's THREE (3) more years. Pilots in Japan will be permitted to fly at 67 but must retire when they turn 68. It states that very clearly in the linked article and in the subject title.

I also read the linked article's title as 67 is the mandatory retirement. I'd say it's far from "very clear". The point of his post was the sarcasm anyway.

At 60 the medical here in Japan gets pretty tough but at 63 it gets even more so..., it includes a series of tests for cognition, memory, heart monitor for 24 hours..., we had 5 guys turned 63 in the past 18 months and only one pass his medical.

I am sure it will be the same in the states....NOT

This is from the third paragraph in the article: Under Japan's new rules, those who are currently 64 or less will have the option of carrying on flying right up until their 68th birthday.

When they raised the retirement age from 60-65 there were 6000 furloughed pilots on the street with no voice. This year those junior pilots are back. It won't happen again.

Unfortunately, those voices will be totally ignored by the airline lobby and Congress.
