Class Delta airspace under class Bravo
Hey guys couple quick questions,
I had a student ask me some stuff about class delta and echo airspace underneath a bravo; I'm pretty sure what I said was right but I told him I would make sure and I can't find the topic anywhere.
When you're inside an airports class delta airspace that underlies a bravo do you still operate under the Bravo's cloud clearance due to it being the more "restrictive" airspace? I told him you did. My thoughts were that you possibly couldn't land if all of a sudden you needed the cloud clearances of the Delta.
To clarify, you flew in with clearance into the bravo and then landed in your Class D airport.
It's just kind of a goofy question because you'd be SVFR anyway if cloud clearances were such this became an issue, and you got there somehow...
However, you can't depart from that class D airspace unless you have the Delta's 512 minimums, is what I told him.
How would you guys explain it?
"How can you not know this as a CFI" bashing welcome, I'm new

Most Bravo airports don't allow SVFR either anyway.
But yeah, very cut and dry overall. If you're in D airspace, you follow D rules, if you're in B airspace, you follow B rules. Don't try to overthink it.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting. So in that situation if one only possesses a PPL and can't pick up IFR, and they won't give you SVFR, you'll just have to divert...
You learn something new every day!
Thanks again

"I'm pretty sure what I said was right"... Just a tip; remember the principle of PRIMACY when teaching. Much better off to just say "I don't know" "I'm not sure" "We need to research that/look it up" "I'll research that" Etc. If you aren't sure it's generally best not to offer anything up. Students are like sponges (Hopefully)They will remember everything you say and do. It's much harder to undo something already in the students head and can lead to other issues as well. Also remember Class D can change to another category... Keep asking questions, nobody knows it all. (And fear those that do...)

Learned to fly on a tower field under bravo myself.....though you don't need a transponder in delta, but if its under bravo you do within 30 miles...make sure students know that! The examiner might ask that on the checkride.
