I was amazed on the last IROP how many pilots where picking up trips in opentime. Dude, its your day off...go home. I had a trip the next day & not captain assigned when I went to bed the next morning they had assigned an RSA captain. I reminded him that we where in contract negotiations but I don't think he gets it. On the crewbus an FO was actively picking up day turns on his day off. On my commute home an AA captain asked how our negotiations where going, I commenced complaining about people picking up trips on their days off. His advice to me was do your part & just fly your minimum every month. He said eventually more people will get on board and I hope he is correct. So until we get a contract this cat is doing the min every month.

Preach on! The company brought a garbage compensation proposal to the table (ALPA's words not mine) and the same week they're begging pilots to fly in an IROP. Pretty much the Sytem Chief admitted we're understaffed. Please please please pick-up. Save us from our mismanagement. And we do.

After a couple of IROP's if the pilot group would stop picking stuff up we would get a contract in no time. As a pilot group we are our own worse enemy. I know the union can't come out and say stop picking up trips but people need to read between the lines. When the union tells us the company offered a substandard offer we need to do our part to make their job a little easier. A little hardship now will pay off in 6 months if we stopped picking up open time during IROP's.

Well a small example was the travel thing being extended because of guys not doing it. I totally agree with you, just think if nobody picked up an RSA. Everything would totally stop and the company would have no idea on what to do.

So true. If nobody picked up RSA/VDA and they started cancelling flights it would have more impact than not cleaning or any of the other band aids. We could really put the hurt on them if we showed some unity.

Every day there is RSA somewhere in the system. Imagine them cancelling 2 or more flights a day due to staffing.

They would never cancel a flight for a crew. They would extend somebody or get a chief pilot to fly.

Do not engage.

The MEC speaks for me.

Hopefully, those who can't read between the lines are starting to get the message. JFK FO open time has 4 open trips for tomorrow & only 7 reserve, I don't blame anyone who swaps for a more productive trip tomorrow but if you are off please don't pick anything up. Enjoy your time off, everyone needs their time away.
