What exactly, is AQP?

The Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) is a voluntary alternative to the traditional regulatory requirements under CFR 14, Parts 121 and 135 for pilot training and checking. Under the AQP the FAA is authorized to approve significant departures from traditional requirements, subject to justification of an equivalent or better level of safety. The program entails a systematic front-end analysis of training requirements from which explicit proficiency objectives for all facets of pilot training are derived.

It seeks to integrate the training and evaluation of cognitive skills at each stage of a curriculum. For pass/fail purposes, pilots must demonstrate proficiency in scenarios that test both technical and crew resource management skills together. Air carriers participating in the AQP must design and implement data collection strategies which are diagnostic of cognitive and technical skills. In addition, they must implement procedures for refining curricula content based on quality control data.

If you look at the data, historically there hasn't been a lot of failures. The problem with the Dash AQP is that a lot of the instructors and check airmen have so much experience with the aircraft, you get into this "technique" ****ing match. The jet was different in my experience, as everyone is still learning the aircraft and very few of our people have a lot of experience in the real world with it. We did get some Expressjet folks and others who have experience and that is beneficial both in experience and approach. Some of the elders are transitioning to the jet now, and I hope its eye-opening for them to be in the student's shoes and to feel that pressure again. It will be a long time before they can apply any "technique" to this bird. Overall, the 145 AQP program I felt was very straightforward with little nonsense involved.

Assuming this person is looking for a regional to work out. If so why would it matter if it's AQP or not.
Continuing Training is something that's going to be a big factor of your career...for the rest of your career. It's a QOL of life thing. I doubt many have ever refused to go somewhere because they didn't have AQP, but I could easily see it being one of many things that would lead to that decision.

I know I would rather go somewhere that had AQP vs a tradition training/PC setup. Honestly if it came down to two potential employers who were pretty equal in every other way, I would choose the one with AQP.

Another curve-ball...some programs have AQP for Initial Training, and non-AQP for Recurrent; and/or vice versa.

Quote: Seriously?!? I'm assuming you are basing your choice off solely from the training department and AQP.

PSA training is good. Not that difficult to make it through. AQP should be up and running in a few months.
PSA will be going AQP for recurrent in the coming months (awaiting FAA approval). AQP for Initial and Upgrade is probably a year or more away.
