Quote: Wrong.

It's scheduling, pure and simple.

After 8+ years commuting to ANC (747) from SoCal, I bid back down to ONT so I wouldn't have to commute anymore. Biggest mistake I've ever made at Brown. The lines in ONT stink compared to ANC.

I thought that not having to commute anymore would make up for the less than desirable lines...nope, I was wrong. I fly mostly international (through VTO bidding), and the trips are horrendous. If three legs a night transiting through SZX with crappy short layovers are your cup of tea, then by all means, bid ONT.

I'm bidding back to the 747 as soon as possible. I'm hoping that they'll let me out of the seat lock, so I can go back to the whale, sooner, rather than later. The only thing I'll miss not flying out of ONT is the SIN and PEN layover...everything else you can have.
Isn't reserve in Ont cake? If you don't have to commute sitting home and getting paid sounds nice.

Sitting at home, and getting paid...hmmm, yes that sounds great.

The reality of the situation is that you will be used. Reserve isn't what it used to be at UPS ten years ago, where you had 30 guys sitting on RSVA, and two got used. There are far fewer bodies sitting reserve now, and your odds for getting called are pretty good.

As of right now, there are a total of 5 guys on RSVA in ONT. Three are on trips, one is sick, and the last one is unassigned (probably since it's his last day). RSVB has 2 guys on call, and they're both on trips. RSVC has 2 guys on call, one is on his break day, and the other has a trip scheduled for the 29th. RSCP has 2 guys on call, one is sick, and the other is on a trip. That's the reality of reserve in ONT.

Reserves seem to be thinner than normal since the November bid across the board...more hard lines, fewer VTOs, and fewer reserves.

And a LOT more JA calls...

This company loves reserves. The staffing fluctuates all of the time and I think that this bid will flush out the more natural reserve numbers
