Well, if the B&G speculation of what the vacancy bid is going to look like is correct then he may just get lucky (70CA and up to 100 FOs on 74) and I could totally see newhires getting ANC 74. That commute will turn into a complete nightmare especially if the MD stays up there. Worse, guys might not be able to bid out if there aren't any vacancies in the lower 48.

Out of the 300+ new hire projected in 17' approx 170-200 will be assigned ANC depending on who's "reliable source" you believe.
As of bid 17-01, there are 452 crew members assigned to ANC.
Taking the low end of 170 new hires, thats a 37% increase in 1 year.
Adding 3 -8's, with two extra seats each to the fleet in the same year....well some one else can do the math, but it won't be close to adding 37% more seats on the commute.
Quite a few folks will have to get a 907 number.

3 747-8s in 2017
5 747-8s in 2018
Initial runs ANC-SDF for familiarization then heavy trunk routes PVG, SZX & HKG.
Bid out 12/19 with increases in all four seats in ANC.
Follow on bid in Spring for minor corrections.
Hiring at least 300 in 2017.
No SDF base yet.
No planned reduction in ANC MD for at least a couple years.
YMMV.

Wrong.
It's scheduling, pure and simple.
After 8+ years commuting to ANC (747) from SoCal, I bid back down to ONT so I wouldn't have to commute anymore. Biggest mistake I've ever made at Brown. The lines in ONT stink compared to ANC.
I thought that not having to commute anymore would make up for the less than desirable lines...nope, I was wrong. I fly mostly international (through VTO bidding), and the trips are horrendous. If three legs a night transiting through SZX with crappy short layovers are your cup of tea, then by all means, bid ONT.
I'm bidding back to the 747 as soon as possible. I'm hoping that they'll let me out of the seat lock, so I can go back to the whale, sooner, rather than later. The only thing I'll miss not flying out of ONT is the SIN and PEN layover...everything else you can have.

Plenty of multiple leg all nighters through SZX...which is enough to drive any person to put a shotgun in his mouth. Also, plenty of back to back to back short layovers that literally wear you out. I can't get back to the 747 fast enough.
