That said. You’ll learn non-rev is not for the faint of heart. I don’t wish it upon my mother-in-law.

Blame Captain Kirk & The Internet. Airlines dump open domestic seats on the market just before departure. Two days prior? 50 seats avail. Day of, Priceline breaks your heart. Non-rev truly sucks.

Get an Amex Skymiles credit card and use those miles for family domestic travel. Non-rev international. You’ll even score an occasional sweet upgrade international.

Off holiday ski trips do pretty well non rev. Like a wed-wed.

Anyone care to enlighten whether non employee travelers, i.e. travel companions or enrolled friends, pay segment fees on AA or DL? or just on UA?

Definitely not. However, is the question I ask out of line, though? Genuinely curious if that's why no one chooses to answer a seemingly simple question.

Everything in one way shape or form has a cost attached to it.

I believe taxes etc. That said non-rev travel is really challenging - when I want to go on a trip with my spouse, I typically don't bother with nonrev as gotta be willing to get bumped all the time etc. It's far from a benefit in my experience. Sure if you follow loads, etc it can work out but not worth it if you have a set time you gotta be somewhere. Heck cant even get much time off to do a trip

Delta travel is just a flat fee for the year. $200 total I believe for everybody. I don’t have AA bennys at my domicile, so I can’t speak to that.

I have had pretty good luck with non-rev. Plan ahead and have some flexibility built into your plans. Often the early or late flight is the way to go.

The last thing you want to do is send a friend on non-rev travel.
