New Hire Hoping for SAN
I start CPT 12/7 and E175 12/28. From what I've read here it sounds like I will go to LGA at first which will be brutal as I'm in San. Hopefully it won't last too long. After SAN what should my second choice be to get closer to the west coast ASAP?

SAN has a few openings every month. Most junior is a 4/2018 hire so shouldn't take way too long to get after IOE. Most junior ORD hire is 6/2018 hire. So might look something like a couple months in LGA then a couple in ORD then SAN eventually before too long.

You can volunteer to sit reserve or pick up trips but you can't just swap out of your normal pairings with your original domicile *usually*. You can try to trade but often times CS won't let you.

Crew scheduling. Used to be called crew support but that stopped after people realized they weren’t supporting crews. You’ll learn to hate them pretty quickly once you are on reserve. That’s a special kind of hell at Skywest

To hold a line or reserve schedule in SAN, you have to be awarded SAN as your domicile. They might let you sit reserve at home sometimes since it is a base, but it depends on their needs. If you're of more use in the west, then maybe. But they can't let all of the LGA reserves hang out on the west coast obviously hard to cover a 0300 sick call for a 0500 show.

In the interim you can start moving west as seniority allows... ORD, DEN, SFO/LAX. Those are better commutes than NY.

Bids are still being processed. But so far SAN ERJ is at 7/18 hire. They probably finished October some time. So maybe 2 months is all they did at another base.. like i said they are still processing bids. It could go more jr.. will see.
