Hiring Stopped
Anyone know if SkyWest has stopped hiring?
I’m current 121 and interviewed last week and had a great interview. Found out our entire interviewing group was rejected. Curious if it the result of hiring freeze or if we all just had a bad interview. |

there being more picky... i had a friend that didn’t even get a interview.. (he did have a prior 121 training failure..)
Little clip from SAPA update...Closing LGA April first instead of June 1. And this... ”Flight Operations will continue hiring and new hire classes will remain as planned, and CQ, transition and upgrade classes are continuing as usual too. This is subject to change on short notice; however, considering the rapid and significant changes we have seen, staffing forecast and the training pipeline both new and recurrent remaining fully intact and unchanged is a hopeful and positive takeaway from all of this.“ |

Sounds to me your interview wasn't as great as you thought.
I’m not sure why it wouldn’t have. Technical was a breeze. Spent most of the HR interview swapping 175 stories. Like I said prior 121 with no training failures at any point. It was just odd that all of us were rejected. |
April 30th was the original date.

If you are a compass or express jet guy the interview team should be ashamed of themselves even more so... either way sounds fishy. if they are not hiring, they should just say that. |

It was just odd that all of us were rejected. Sounds like you would have been a great addition especially with the 121 and ERJ time. Wish you the best of luck. |
I’m currently at Compass, applying to Skywest today.
I also have a referral from one of my friends at Skywest now. Hoping to join you guys. |
Spoke to a friend who works with recruiting. He said they are still hiring.

Yeah that’s been the strange part. I’m XJT on the 175 and living in Phoenix. Was looking forward to not commuting to ORD anymore haha |

Training canceled
Just had a friend in hiring say SKW is freezing all training that isn’t CQ. Also called training and they confirmed it. New hire, upgrade, etc., is all canceled.
|
Seems like some decision may have been made and distributed this afternoon.
|
Yep this sucks. My MV was tomorrow but it looks like we’re all going home. Hopefully we get invited back soon to join all you guys. Best of luck to everyone.

So sorry to hear this has happened to new hires. From the SAPA update and the tone of TT's email you have to wonder if the dreaded F word is coming next...
I'm expecting requests for unpaid leave to be out within the next 24 hours at the very least. |

I agree, I am so sorry to see this happen to those in training, and I hope this is able to turn around in a reasonable amount of time. Sounds like you will be given an opportunity to come back once the hiring starts again should you still be seeking employment. My thought is that this was done to avoid the dreaded F word. |

Terrible for all involved, although out of interest, was this stand down of new hires technically SkyWests first ever furlough or something else?
No idea if they’ll continue to receive training guarantee as that’s not been publicly stated yet. That will be a very important detail. |

For all intents and purposes I’d say yes, but they aren’t calling it that and probably never will. Just a “temporary training suspension”

Unless they were stood down for health reasons, limiting social spread etc... I have to doubt any form of guarantee is being paid. Would be very happy to be wrong. Anyone in the classes care to share? I am hoping to see you here again very soon! |

Training suspension... hotels are stoping food service. No mass gatherings. Drive through only. Hard to be in training now..... sucks. But no furlough word... hope they get things moving again in a month or so..

In training currently. Haven’t heard yet if we’re getting paid, we’re all assuming we aren’t.
Or maybe they consider you not really employees until after training, I think I recall something like that but it was a long time ago. Best of luck. |

They will have to furlough then, which they have never done. They can't just stop paying you, unless they claim some kind of force majeure.

maybe they don’t want people who jump ship from one airline to another simply to fly a different airplane. If you are a shiny metal pilot it might appear to them that you won’t upgrade until you can get the plane you want or won’t like flying the older crj.
I actually put in for the CRJ. Not jumping ship to keep the 175. Looking for a better QOL and a better company culture. |

Check your email in the next day or two for that QOL!!! |
Those of us in training apparently get no pay, no benefits, but also not fired. When hiring resumes we can return in order of seniority, and most likely start ground school again from scratch (indoc) regardless of how far we got in training. Republic gets a $60/day stipend, we got nuthin unless SAPA can work something out on our behalf.
Sure smells like a furlough to me, or are we technically not employees yet? |

Just hopping in with my 2 cents. I'm obviously one of the poor souls that got sent home from training. Here's how it went down, here's what I know.
The communication was atrocious. We had SIM instructors, ground instructors, everyone involved with training, not know a single thing. We asked every day. We had the director of training and Chiefs stop by to reassure us that training would persist. There were people interviewing yesterday. Everything was moving right along until the moment they pulled the plug. I was among the groups that had the ability to ask questions because we were told in person. The corporate email, however, was 2 paragraphs, with no resources for assistance. As previous people have mentioned, no guarantee, no flight benefits, and presumably no healthcare (makes sense during a pandemic). We were stripped of our company items, said we'd retain seniority and bon voyage. A friend also reached out to the benefits hotline, and they don't even have the information yet to answer our questions. While this was all inevitable, it was done tactlessly; and from a company that boasts about no furloughs. This is a furlough. Moms, dads, people with no residences, uprooted their lives to be a part of this team to just be kicked out into the cold. It's not fair. It's not how you treat people... especially with what's going on in the world. All for a dollar. Now, on a more pragmatic, less emotional, we get it. The business needs to survive and if it doesn't we're all out the door. The industry will recover, the world will be fine, and we'll proceed with our training. But to anyone wishing to be with the airlines one day: this is the ugly truth. To all of you still flying, be safe. I hope to join y'all next semester after summer break. |
From the presidents latest update, sounds like the dreaded F word is creeping closer very quickly for many more of us
|
I have that impression too

Delta now grounding 600 jets.
Question is now, how far down the list will furloughs go? The way things are looking maybe even grounding of the entire airline now? |

Anyone in the classes care to share? I am hoping to see you here again very soon! Seems like health reasons to me. I think the last guidance was that we are supposed to limit gatherings to 10 people or less, having 60 people stuck in a classroom doesn't seem like a great idea for potential health reasons. Especially when people are flying in from other places, all interfacing and spending all day every day together. What happens if one of those people all the sudden starts showing symptoms? At that point you would have no way of knowing how many people has been exposed. Probably has a pretty low chance of happening, but I sure wouldn't want that on my conscience if classes full of people, instructors, etc were all exposed all of the sudden because I made the call to keep training people. |
