However, the schedule inflexibility is the real downer on reserve. Like many have said, reserve blocks could be traded in ELITT, I might consider bidding reserve in the future.
How do you get Premium on Reserve?

Without going into multiple paragraphes, basically you have some protections similar to a line holder, once you've checked in for a trip. If they modify your assignment to fly later then originally scheduled, or have you report earlier, you will get premium for some or all of the legs. For some odd reason, this only applied to the 'next day' of the trip.

The reason 4 days are more lucrative is that there are very few four days, so it's hard for the company to neatly slot a trip to cover your reserve days. Often times you'll get a trip imported from another base, with a single deadhead on the 3rd or 4th day. Of course, the day before that deadhead the change the assignment, and any legs extending beyond the original footprint will be premium.

Reserve has become very lucrative. It still has some fairly cruddy rules associated with it, though, that make it pretty unfriendly for commuters and those who want some predictability in their lives. This summer is going to be an absolute scheduling mess with reroutes and JA.

Can't get JA on reserve. Also can't get released to commute home either so maybe it's a wash. Seriously if the reserve rules were more commuter friendly or you wernt held hostage I'd bid reserve every time. Getting released on you last day later if you worked than if you didn't is a big oversight in our rules. Also if you were either assigned a trip or released on you last day upon return to base, like the FAs, instead of having to stick around for another x amount of hrs and reserve would go senior

Isn't that against 117? You have to be given a flight assignment or released to rest upon return to base as a reservist per 117. Unless that's changed since my reserve days.

He is talking about being released to rest (or in this case to home since it is the last day). At SWA you have to call and ask to be released unless you are on the last day and meet certain criteria.
Unlike most carriers, when you are given an assignment, you aren't treated like a lineholder. You are still responsible for being available at RAP start and they can contact you and change your assignment any time. Once you are done with the assignment, you have to call and ask to be released. Theoretically they could put more flying on you. In practice, they will do that via crew web anyway, so the call isn't necessary, but it's still in the contract.

But they can also put you back into a RAP (back on call) when you return to base after an assignment, for a certain amount of time that fits within the 117 duty day requirements. I've had it done, though I never did have them call me back and assign me anything else...

I gotcha.
But they can't just put you back on call right? Another assignment is fair game but back onto short call reserve isn't

No you go back on call until you've used up your 15hr day. That's right, on reserve you automatically agree to an extension. Except last day then it's 7 hrs from beginning of reserve if you haven't worked. Or 7 hrs after you report if you did. You will always report later if you worked. Hence having to be available lat er if you worked.

Default Hey Roff

It's simple, if you get the chocolate bar with the golden ticket, show up at the factory for the tour! In other words, if you can get hired at a U.S. major-RUN FOREST RUN! Having any say in your "roster" alone will save you from madness. I think I know where you work and if it's green and where Jackie Chan is from then GET OUT NOW! The Titanic is sinking.

Beat the que, 'cause it's gonna be big.

Seriously, prepare and concentrate on the areas you thought you were weak the other times. Have your paperwork AND LOGBOOKS, in really good order. Pay the 400$ to have someone review EVERYTHING with you. Skype someone(s) and do mock interviews.

This may sound silly but for the love of god put on a shirt! Really though, MANNY-PEDDY, HAIR CUT, EARS AND NOSE HAIRS CLEARED OUT, EYEBROWS ETC...I See guys with the most haneous grooming habits and it makes me "NUTS"! See I even made a pun.

Lastly, table fly scenarios and think like a captain. You know who helps me a lot in my career, crazy I know, but my wife! Talk to her and include her in the process.

Best of luck and I'll say a prayer for you.
