Default Vacancy Awards

The results for the May bid included 82 newhires.

HOU 13
MCO 4
MDW 2
OAK 56
PHX 7

Junior pilot in each domicile listed from senior to junior.

ATL Feb 07 2017
DEN Nov 14 2017
DAL Dec 12 2017
LAS Jan 09 2018
BWI Jan 16 2018
MCO Jan 30 2018
MDW Jan 30 2018
HOU Feb 06 2018
PHX Feb 06 2018
OAK Feb 20 2018

Last class on this vacancy was the Feb 20 class. The bottom line is you might get OAK for a month but then can hold any base within a month or two except ATL and DEN. DEN is a short wait and ATL is down to a year.

Any guess as to how long you would sit reserve at each?

Few months to a year+. Depends on which bases grow, bidding habits of those Sr to you, etc.

Remember that September will be an anomaly because pilots will bid to a more junior base for one month to increase their vacation bidding horsepower, then bid right back out in October. You will also see snowbirds bid to a warmer climate over the winter and a more temperate climate in the spring.

It’s one of the few problems with having domicile bids every single month.

Or a benefit. I'm more senior in the winter :-) I don't like to be more junior in the summer by about 10-20 slots--but it's just a rounding error with > 1000 pilots in base. The pilots mostly harmed are those who get displaced due to occasional shrinkage who can't get back in during slight growth. Hence, ROR is a bigger gripe.

Looking forward to being a snow bird in a few years myself.
