Into Flght OPS

Has any one been hired at SWA into flight ops from a different department. Does SWA hire within the company

Lots of F/As have been hired from other departments.

I recently had a Skywest jumpseater and he spent 12+ years as a ramp worker as a Southwest employee. He's currently upgrading to captain at Skywest and hopes to get hired back to be a pilot at Southwest. Based on his attitude and credentials I'd be surprised if he isn't back at Southwest flying the airplane sooner rather than later. So yeah, it happens.

The only pilots hired internally are Training guys and gals. Seniority same as the rest of the class.

I know of a flight attendant that has moved into dispatch, and another that became a pilot.

A lot of dispatchers come from crew scheduling.

So these southwest employees, that get hired into flight ops, What is their total flight time.

There is no shortcut to a FO position at SWA. Many instructors have interviewed and didn’t get the job.

Almost all of these employees were former employees. They left the company, got the experience and applied. One guy was a retired Navy pilot who was an Ops Agent for year befoe being hired.

I was on the ground side but left the company to gain experience. Came back many years later. Same interview as any other applicant. Can’t say that I had any sort of master plan but it worked out. Happy to be here and to help out the ball club in any way I can.
