not saying you’re wrong since I’m not alpa just asking

Apologies for all the offended. Just got a reply from my Union rep, and there are several other airlines doing the same. Can't say I agree, but definitely can't complain about SWA if there is more doing the same. I'm back to drinking beer in the backyard....

AFAIK this complies with the safety policy. There is no federal requirements to keep the middle seat open. Also, with no seat assignment there is no way to make sure the middle seat remains open on SWA.
"Spirit currently has a soft-block on middle seats on all aircraft seats, these seats will not be assigned to any passenger, revenue, or non-rev UNTIL soft-block capacity is reached. Then, middle seats will begin to be assigned to any passenger, jumpseaters included. As always, cockpit jumpseats are available, subject to PIC approval."

Unfortunately this policy applies to SWA pilots as well as offline pilots. So if the jumpseats are full and the seat cap is met even a Southwest pilot can’t get on the aircraft. Dumb policy and SWAPA is trying to get it changed but so far they can’t get management to change it.

Yes I commute. I'm not going to ***** about another airline on how they run their airline when I'm begging for a ride. Ride your own metal then. Luckily I don't go on other airlines but my own.

I understand, because you got lucky everyone else can go eff themselves. Great attitude.

Yes it totally sucks. In the last 5 years here we have lost walk up listing, seen captains authority eroded wrt weight restrictions, and now this. The jumpseat makes being a commuter possible. Half the pilots commute to work.
How we treat guests is directly reflected in how they treat us.

You are all still welcome to walk up to the gate anytime you like and list for our jumpseat. Our agents will either give you a seat assignment, tell you that you will most likely get a seat assignment when they clear the other passriders, or give you the jumpseat form if you will indeed need to ride in the cockpit. We will make sure you get something to eat if you end up riding up front. Hopefully we never resort to a third party listing requirement at United. It isn’t the end of the world to use the my ID travel site, just another step while running through a terminal trying to get home. A little forethought (having it filled out online in advance even if it is a backup) goes a long way. Looks like I’ll be commuting again sometime later this year. Never say never.
