From our ALPA JS committee:
"Most major carriers are placing caps on their seating, however the Jumpseat is exempt from all seat caps. This is causing some confusion among the Gate Agents. If there is confusion, please reach out to a committee member immediately."

From SWA:
"
The flight deck jumpseat will continue to be requested and cleared following our standard procedures. However, the Captain may decide if that individual will be permitted to sit in the flight deck. If the Captain does not permit them to sit in the flight deck and the flight is not at capacity, the jumpseater can sit in the cabin. If the flight is at the capped capacity, the jumpseater will be removed from the flight and may relist on a different flight. We will not be able to oversell or overbook the flight to accommodate the jumpseater."

Is SWA not a major carrier anymore?

What makes you ask that question?

That all ALPA carriers will ignore the cap to get a pilot to work but SWA will not?

That's not the question you asked.

If we reach the artificial cap you can ride the Jumpseat as long as the Captain approves (this is the way it is at every carrier I'm aware of). We are not allowing a flow back into the cabin above the cap. I guess other carriers are doing this differently. We are disappointed in the policy as well. I would honestly be a little surprised if a Captain denied the jumpseat, but these are crazy times I guess. Certainly nothing that I condone.

It is the question I implied. If there is more than 2 JS-ers (or more than 1 on the AT 737s) the cap will prevent you from getting a cabin seat, on ALPA carriers it will not. Maybe you could do more than being disappointed or not condoning.

Being snarky is not going to get the action you desire. This applies to our guys as much as anyone else.

Most of us are very upset with this and *****ing. I would recommend you and anyone else contacting SWAPA, and let them know how you feel . Some outside pressure could not hurt .
