Anyone know how bad it is commuting out of BNA when your junior? I understand it’s highly dependent on which base you bid, but I’m curious if anyone has an idea of how many off days it would cost commuting. Thanks.

Usually pretty junior except it shrank more than any other base during the pandemic. I'm assuming it's because HOU was the main hub for Mexico/Cent American travel and those flights are still not near pre-pandemic levels. Because of this, it's kind of middle of the road now as far as seniority goes. It'll probably trend more junior once int'l travel picks up.

The BNA-DEN run seems to be a pretty popular one with commuters, especially FAs. As with any commuting with SWA, you’ll have to come in the night prior for an AM trip or likely leave the next AM after a PM trip. Not a whole lot that are commutable on both sides - you can plan on one night in a hotel. Being junior doesn’t really change the equation.

Houston isn’t even senior for captains

Houston is a good commuter base and runs junior.

We have commutable trips there, and as of recently, there have been several lines with them available. It may involve weekend flying or short overnights, but it has been great for those of us who desire these trips.

Thanks for the info. I take it that it’s highly unlikely to get a line that starts Pm and transitions to Am in that case? Sounds like essentially either way you cut it, your commuting on one day off per tour? You guys typically average 14-16 days off per month?

It can happen, but they would rather give you an AM that transitions to a PM to make sure you get the full hotel experience.

very few if any trips like that. And if they are senior guys grab them because its easier to give away or they like the less time away from base.
Average days off a month is 17.
if you commute plan on losing a day each time out. You may score a trip that gets you back or schedule change but dont count on it. Sometimes you can get a line with overnights in your home but if it's going to be BNA I'd forget about that as well. Way too many people commute from there..

I can look at the bid pack later, but Houston has had several commutable lines every month and many more with commutable trips. A lot of them are over the weekend, so they don't go senior. You may not hold them right away, but they are definitely out there.

Lots of trips start late morning and end early evening. Last flight to BNA is generally pretty late.
