I went missed at 0200 at 200' on a clear day because another plane couldnt get off the runway. Needless to say it wasnt something we were expecting and briefed. I was with a check airman, I was flying, and by the time we got the gear up we had numerous radio calls and instructions with climb to missed approach altitude. He was asses and elbows trying to keep up and find the missed altitude. If we would have set it before hand it would not have been a problem, but we have to reinvent the wheel...
after all said and done I made an under the breath comment about if we only set the missed altitude before hand. He immediately corrected me and said that's not how we do it. Even after the **** show he preformed

We luv to make easy hard. At least we know your cockpit windows were closed. The separation of standards and procedures was a terrible idea. Procedures makes crap up and the standards guys hardly have a heads up to the change. Hopefully a middle manager was promoted to upper-middle management with that idea! <sarcasm>

Did you fill out an ASAP? I had something similar happen to me and I filled one out. I write an ASAP on every go-around and tell them I'm temporarily in the red due to our flawed procedure of setting zeros.

Let me guess…..he was former AF, right? Because literally every other ******ing airline sets the missed approach altitude and anyone with prior 121 time realizes just how ******ed up setting zeros is (amongst other things we do that are totally dumb).

5th & 20th…..5th & 20th……..

So what is the reason for setting 0000? Honest question.

520. But… if I had to guess, it may have something to do with doing the same thing on every type of approach. Setting missed works with ILS but it could get convoluted with every other type of approach.

New callout coming…”go around, set missed approach altitude. And verify windows closed and locked.”

Funny…..setting the missed approach altitude seems to work at other airlines.

Honest question: does anyone know of another carrier that sets zeros? How about setting TDZ elevation on visuals and minimums on actual instrument approaches?

The best is “visual callouts” and then f+++ing with the mins selector at a low altitude to reset it from mins to TDZ elevations. Who the hell came up with these asinine policies?!

I just leave the mins selector alone at that point. Why would you reset it to tdz? Have I been doing it wrong?
