I can explain it to you. I can’t understand it for you. If you don’t put in the effort you will never get it. Google “queuing theory” and “theory of constraints” and do a little reading.
And right now it appears the ULCCs have qualified applicants for all their new hire classes. Is there going to be attrition in the ULCCs higher up the seniority chain? Yeah, no doubt. How much? Depends on what management does to curtail it. But there is also going to be attrition at the Big Three. But a good chunk of theirs is age-related retirements, which their management can’t do a d@mn thing about. Barring a regulatory change, all those guys are just gone, and neither money nor work rule changes will help.
Either way, the first hit comes at the regional level.

There's talk of NK having to park 319s for lack of crews. CA upgrades are being reduced at all ULCCs including NK. How are you blind to this?

[QUOTE=Excargodog;3365368]That’s an inconvenience, not a problem. NK has almost 17 pilots per aircraft and they can just add premium pay if they want. Or just choose to park 319s to staff the 24 320 NEOs they have coming in this year.
THIS IS A PROBLEM:
One that is instantly solved by increasing compensation👍

I think he is saying it doesn’t immediately solve the problem. Airline managements created this problem over a generation of poor pay and working conditions at the commuters, massive outsourcing of narrow body flying (DC9, F28, F100, Bac111, 737-200) to regional jets, along with the near constant cycle of furlough and recall. So even stellar pay and benefits today would take years to trickle down to new student pilot starts, training, time building and eventually a new hire. Many of us whose careers were upended after 9/11 won’t recommend the career to our own children - that’s not insignificant.
I fear the result will be an increase in retirement age to 67 or 70, creating yet another half decade of stagnation (although at least we aren’t on furlough this time). In my (unpopular) opinion we should advocating right now for pilots who choose to work beyond age 65 to be SIC only. Worse yet some sort of multi crew license scheme like the Europeans use where FOs lack any significant experience before warming the right seat in an airliner.
